Learning and Teaching

This week we celebrated Harmony Week for 2021. We placed a special emphasis on our Indigenous culture. On Monday we collectively gathered as a community to share in a 'Welcoming Ceremony' and to present our elected 'Fire Carriers'  to the school. Our Indigenous leader 'Sherry Balcombe' led us in prayer and was assisted in the planting of the native Hibiscus which  signifies reconciliation.

Our students then engaged in a storytelling session with Sherry, created a timeline representing Aboriginal History, painted rocks for our garden using Aboriginal symbols and participated in a whole school Assembly. In class, an emphasis was placed on accepting and recognising differences from all different cultures.

Our teachers have commenced planning for Term Two. The focus is on our school value of Respect which is linked to scripture, the Intercultural capability, Geography, Digital Technology and Economics and Business (Year 5 and 6). Our aim is to really engage our students and to integrate our motto 'Through Christ: Dare to love, Dare to Learn and Dare to Lead.' We have asked teachers to capture their student's wonderings and to bring it around the table to drive further planning. Stay tuned for the amazing work they produce!
