Middle Years

I would like to extend a warm welcome to new students and their families, so: welcome to the new school year! It is exciting welcoming our Year Six students, new Year Seven and Year Eight students to myPEC. Our School year has started well, with enthusiasm and excitement in the Centre. Each year level is settling into their new routines, new teachers and making new friends. One area we take pride in is making everyone feel welcome, and I encourage all students to make new friends and help others wherever possible. It is the small gestures of kindness that make all the difference.

It is important to reinforce that we have high expectations (I like to call them “non-negotiables”) and this reflects our culture, or how we do things. This includes the following expectation of all myPEC students:

  • Wearing your uniform with pride, to and from school. This includes hats, socks up, shirts in.
  • Be committed to your learning in class and diligently and reliably completing your homework. Effectively using your Record Book.
  • Be hard working, as effort pays off. Ask your mentor and teachers to help you. Teachers like being asked questions as this shows initiative.
  • Adopt a positive and ‘can do’ attitude; this will set you apart and open up opportunities.
  • Manners matter; always be polite and courteous.
  • Setting up strong homework routines is important.
  • Pack your school bag the night before, including sports bags/musical instruments.
  • Make sure your iPad is charged for the day ahead.

YEAR 9 CITY EXPERIENCE

Last week we travelled to Melbourne for the Year Nine City Experience. Students completed a highly successful week immersed in city life. I would like to pass on my congratulations to our Year 9 students who quickly adapted to the challenges and worked collaboratively as a group. Friendships were strengthened and friendships were made. We were delighted to welcome Jack Liu, Annabel Michelmore and Oskar Masters into Year Nine. Thank you to Mrs Bromley, Mr Clare, Mr MacLean, Mr Carroll and Joss Boyle for accompanying the group to Melbourne. I was impressed by how polite our students are, and this is a direct credit to families.

YEAR 7 ADVENTURE DAY

Students will receive information this week on their Adventure Day on Monday 20th February. This new initiative replaces the Orientation Camp, which was costly and not meeting our needs. Students will complete a series of water based challenges near Hamilton. Students will need an old clothes, hats and footwear. We have some flexibility depending on the weather forecast. Families need to make sure their son or daughter is signed into Care Monkey to allow us access to medical information and consent for this activity.
