Principal's Report

New Uniform 2020

We are very excited to formally announce that Greensborough College is introducing a new school uniform for 2020.

The School Council begun the consultation process in September 2018.  Students, staff and parents were consulted for input into, and feedback on, the designs and materials.

The new uniform meets the purposes of a dress code, including:

  • Promoting students’ sense of identity with and pride in the school
  • Allowing all students to feel equal (Equality is one of our core values)
  • Promoting cohesion and good order in the school which leads to students feeling safe and secure
  • Ensuring the students’ appearance reflects the expectations of our community
  • Enhancing the profile and image of our school within the community

The new uniform has been designed as a “wardrobe”, so students can choose the items to wear that suit their individual needs around comfort, appearance and warmth.  It is a gender neutral uniform that allows all students the choice of garments to wear. There is an Academic Uniform and a Sports Uniform.  The soft shell jacket (not shown in photos) can be worn with both the Academic and Sports Uniform.

The other new features are the colours of navy, light blue and grey and the inclusion of the soft shell jacket and cardigan.

We are waiting for the sample school dress to be made. A picture from the original story board is included for your perusal.

We will have one supplier, Noone Imagewear. There will be a new shop on the school site which will open in term 4.  There will be a process for on line ordering. Further information will be communicated to families about this.

The second hand uniform shop will be reducing its stock. Lowes and Noone Imagewear will have reduced stock and prices for current uniform.

All Year 7 students and any new students enrolled in the school from 2020, will be required to wear the new school uniform.

The phasing-in period is two years for the rest of the school. This means that in 2022 all students at Greensborough College will be required to wear the new uniform.

We will be providing further information about the School Uniform Policy and other procedures related to the new uniform as we move towards 2020.

New Staff

Welcome to the following new staff members to our school

  • Hayley Pantalleresco (English/Humanities)
  • Adela Carson (Maths/Science)
  • Darcy Harding (Integration)
  • Jonathan Mowen (Instrumental Music)

We have appointed an Italian Teacher who will start on the 12th August and we will be conducting interviews for a Music teacher and an Art teacher in the coming weeks.  The recent vacancies have arisen due to staff transfers, illness and leave. The Department of Education and Training has a Merit Based selection process that takes between four to six weeks to complete and in the meantime we employ casual relief teachers to take classes.

Working Bee

We had terrific weather for the working bee on Saturday. You will notice the new mulch around the garden beds and if you drive or walk down Kardinia Street you will notice most of the rubbish removed from the fence line.  Thank you to the following people who joined me on Saturday and contributed to this community day:

  • Lucinda Fairlie
  • Diane and Peter Jose
  • Sam Borg
  • Michelle Molinaro
  • Silvia Zuzek and Family
  • David and Margaret McNicol
  • Sharon Shaw (Business Manager)
  • Glenn Jenner (Assistant Principal)
  • Graeme Watson

Child Safe Standards

Visitors to our school

As mentioned in previous newsletters, there is a sign-in process for visitors to our school. We ask that visitors report to the reception in the Administration building. Occasionally, members of the public use Greensborough College as a thoroughfare. We have approached people and explained the procedures and referenced the Child Safety legislation. We are asking our community to follow the requests of Greensborough College staff. We ask the community to use the surrounding streets to make their way through the suburb and not use the school grounds as a short cut, especially during school and work hours between 8am and 5.00pm.

No drop off/pick up in school car parks

I would also like to remind families that there is no drop off or pick up zone in the school car parks. Please drop off and pick up outside the school grounds.

School Signage

We have had an audit completed on the signage needs for the school.  You will see new signs in the next couple of weeks at the Nepean Street Entry, and on the corners of Nell and Longmire, and Nell and Kardinia.  There will be signage at the Administration as well and some directional signage as visitors walk on to t the grounds showing them the way to the Sports Stadium and the Administration. We will also be placing signs on the fence at the different gate entrances reminding the public that we are a school and that all visitors need to
