scientifically speaking...

Jessica Sartori

Head of Learning - Science

The 2018 Science Expo staged was a fabulous night celebrating the work Year 8 students .

Each year, we  challenge our Year 8  students to employ their curiousity and  imagination to ask a question that can be answered by Science.  And the result?  A wonderful  range of creative and well thought out experiments!

Students are  required to present this work at the annual Science Expo. Here, they must engage with visitors and guests, explain  their work and address questions from the public.  This year, our students put a lot of work into fabulous displays and demonstrations and were eager to share their new knowledge.

This event allows students to take responsibility for their learning, to recognise and to celebrate it with others.  It gives them the opportunity to speak 'scientifically' - building their confidence in exercising their 'science vocabulary' to effectively communicate their discoveries.  This confidence will fuel their passion and talent to pursue a science pathway, which in turn will open up so many fields of opportunity beyond their secondary education.

It was wonderful to see the  Year 8 students step up to the challenge and to deliver such great (and entertaining!) results!

Who knows where this

curiousity and commitment

could take them?

I take this opportunity to thank the Science faculty staff that assisted in making the night such a great success.
