Later Years

Tutoring
After school tutoring is underway again this year on Tuesday in the Senior Centre. Our students are very fortunate to have the benefit of free tutoring from ex-students who achieved very highly in their subjects last year.
Tutoring runs from 3:30 – 5:00pm on Tuesday during the school term. Assistance is available to all students in the Later Years, with expertise in subjects right up to Year 12 in English, English Language, Maths, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Accounting, Business Management, PE, Chinese Second Language, Food Tech, Legal and Health.
The College also provides an afternoon snack around 4pm for all students who attend.
Come and join us on a Tuesday afternoon and get the most out of your academic studies this year.
Mentor Update
Year 10 students have been working on a Career Investigation unit in Mentor over the last few weeks. All students completed Career Voyage in Term One, an online quiz that suggests possible career options based on their skills and interests. A Career Action Plan was also started, with students setting out goals for the year. All students are required to submit their work for this unit by the end of Week 3, Term 2.
Year 11 students had a guest speaker in Mentor at the end of last term, Mr Bob Hillman from Trinity Grammar, and previously the Chief Examiner for Year 12 English, speaking about the importance of, and link between, organisation and academic success.
Students left the session with a strong drive to make the most of their opportunities this year and to push themselves to achieve their best. Another key focus this term for Year 11 is on honing study skills prior to the mid-year exam.
Year 12 students also had a guest speaker at the end of last term from "Looking After Your Mates". This program is a drug and drink driving education program with a focus on how can you help others if you find yourself in a situation where they are affected by alcohol or drugs. Students left the session with a greater awareness of what is a standard drink, how long alcohol takes to be metabolised by the body, and strategies to look after not only themselves, but their friends.
Both Year 11 and 12 students have recently completed a Career Action Plan, outlining goals that will help them guide their success this year. These documents are now due and students need to hand a hard-copy in to their Mentor Teacher.
Careers News
Later this term all Year 10 students will be participating in a Mock Interview as part of their Mentor Program. Students are preparing for this by creating and updating their resume, learning skills to write effective cover letters, and practising their answers to common interview questions.
If you have any experience in interviewing and are interested in helping out on the day as part of an interview panel, please email Tamara Mason
