Where did you work prior to joining Wantirna College?

Prior to joining Wantirna College I worked at a secondary school not too far from here. Before becoming a teacher I worked as a Student Support Worker at Monash University. I also had a few smaller jobs such as doing a little freelance graphic design work, mentoring first year university students as well as secondary school students and also running an after-school art program for primary aged children.

What do you like about teaching?

I love talking which is one of my most favourite things about teaching and also connecting with my students, showing interesting artworks or design work and starting interesting discussions in class. I enjoy having the privilege of working with so many interesting young people every day who all have such diverse personalities and individual characteristics.

What attracted you to becoming a teacher?

I've always wanted to be a teacher ever since I was very little! To be honest I was initially drawn to the job from a young age simply because I felt it would be lots of fun and also because I didn't want to sit behind a desk all day as I can get restless quite easily. I knew teaching would allow me to draw on my passion for art and design and also for working closely with people which I felt was the perfect fit for me. As I got older many of my own teachers helped and supported me during my time at secondary school, building me up as a young person with positive and encouraging words. I've always wanted to do the same for all of my students.

What subjects do you teach?

This year I'm teaching Art, Visual Communication, Digital Art and Digital Photography. I've also taught a few other subjects in the past such as Textiles.

Do you have any pets?

I have no pets but have recently taken an interest in looking after pot plants. I'm interested to see how I go with taking on that responsibility.

What is your favourite book or movie?

There are too many movies that I like out there to name. I'm a huge Wes Anderson fan so many of his films would be my favourites. Other movies would be Funny Face, The Truman Show, Oceans 11, 12 & 13, The Sound of Music and The Hunger Games. The last time I went to the movies I saw Joy and really enjoyed it.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

In my spare time I like going to the movies, listening to music, going for walks, visiting art exhibitions and catching up with friends over brunch or pancakes. I would really like to get back into reading books again though too!
