Vines Classroom Refurbishment

Children and staff arrived back this term to see that the Vines classrooms had been given a facelift.  It was very exciting to step into refurbished rooms with bright new pin-boards, whiteboards, storage and lighting.  The looks on the faces of children entering, as they took in their new surroundings, and the comments they made showed that they are proud of their school and the environment they work in.  We thank those involved for making these rooms come to life in such a small amount of time.  We invite everyone to come and have a look at these new developments when you get a chance, even just to stick your head in when dropping students off in the morning or allowing a few extra minutes when picking up at the end of the day. You are most welcome.

Junior Art

Term 3 is here and it is going to be a crazy one so hold on! We have our rather secretive Woolly Wool Fest project starting this week, some exciting integration with classroom teachers and preparations for our Art Show in early Term 4. We also are excited to have plans for all of the children at Myrniong to visit the Hamilton Gallery twice this term for some really awesome exhibits that are going to be on display. We are so lucky to have the Gallery at our disposal and I would encourage everyone to have a look at what is on because we are only seeing two of the available exhibits: there are others to feast your eyes on!

On the Woolly Wool Fest front, we are still in need of some old wool garments or blankets and also some balls of wool to complete our project. It would be greatly appreciated if these could be dropped into Myrniong for myself (Mrs. Nettleton). Mrs. Povey will be happy to take them off your hands and pass them on to me! The sooner we get the items into the art room the sooner we can get into full production mode!

Junior Basketball

Basketball training recommences next week with boys training on Monday 18th July at 3.30pm.  U10 girls will now train on Monday night as well due to the Association making the decision to change their game night to Friday.  Please be aware that there will not be any training on Friday 15th July as advised in the basketball letter sent home at the end of last term.  We do not have a season starting date as yet with the Association still considering options due to roof leaks at HILAC.  We will pass this on as soon as it is available.

Hoop Time Years 3 & 4

On Thursday, 21st July, Year 3 & 4 will take part in Hoop Time organised by Basketball Victoria.  The day has a round robin format and allows children the opportunity to play in a fun, interschool competition with short games of 13 minutes each.  Hoop time caters for students at all levels of ability.  Please note that students will not be able to have a lunch order on this day and will need to bring a packed lunch.  Remember to bring a water bottle and to wear your sports uniform on the day.

Please note that there is the opportunity for U12 players (born in 2005 & 2006) to register for a Basketball Victoria Skills Day on the 23rd of July (to be held at HILAC).  Check in from 9:30am with clinics running from 10:00am – 4:00pm.  The day is designed for players of all abilities and standards.  It will concentrate on the individual skills relevant for players in the U12 age group. Registration $120

Year 3 to 5 PE

We advise that Years 3 & 4 will have a Physical Education lesson on Tuesday, 19th July to make up for missing their lesson during Week One of Term 4.

Year 4 will be dismissed from Senior Campus Sports Centre at 3.30pm on this day.

Year 5 will have a Physical Education lesson on Friday, 22nd July (dismissal from Myrniong) instead of Thursday, 28th July due to Senior Campus House Afternoon.

Students will need to remember to bring their PE uniform on these days.

Football Clinic

A free fun based football clinic is being held for primary aged school students at Melville Oval, Hamilton on Wednesday, 20th July at 4.30pm.  The clinic is designed to simply have some fun, learn new skills and use the fabulous new AFL Victoria football activity inflatables that have been an enormous hit at all the Toyota Good For Footy venues.  The clinic will run for approximately one hour and at the conclusion, there will be a free BBQ for all those attending.  In addition to the clinic, Toyota Hamilton will also sponsor a prize for any student at the clinic that can kick the footy into the back of a Toyota ute.

As a way of incentive and thank you for schools supporting the free clinic, Toyota will provide size three, synthetic footballs to schools, with 2 footballs per 15 students attending.

This is purely a fun event and parents are encouraged to come along and be part of the fun evening.
