Open Day
I would like to congratulate all the students and staff for their efforts in delivering another fantastic Open Day. I would also like to thank the many visitors who attended. We had approximately 800 guests on the day and hope everyone found the day enjoyable.
Please do send feedback about the day to me so we can consider changes to make the day more informative and enjoyable.

Primary Awareness Day
On Tuesday 30th August we welcomed over 250 young people on site, to see our College enterprises and gain an insight into Primary Industries and what we do on the farm here. Bus loads of students arrived in the morning, they toured our many different enterprise displays and demonstrations including;
- Abattoir
- Beef
- Bees
- Biosecurity
- Dairy
- Equine
- Horticulture
- Machinery and Sheep Shearing
The Farm Trainers (ATOs) supported by some of our Year 10 students performed brilliantly to explain the functions of equipment and methods of completing agricultural tasks to the various groups. I’m sure we will be seeing many of those young visitors again in a few years’ time!

OLNA
The OLNA is an online literacy and numeracy assessment. It is designed to enable students to successfully meet the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) requirement of demonstrating the minimum standard of literacy and numeracy.
Round 2 of OLNA is happening right now. We have worked hard to support students in their preparations for the assessments and we are confident of gaining positive results this time around.
Students have been able to sample the types of assessment and practice here;
Log in details are available from English and Maths Teachers.
ATAR Exams
Exam dates for Year 12 are now finalised and the program is as follows. Students undertaking exams are welcome to opt out of the usual school uniform requirements for the days of the exams. They will also be offered additional study sessions before the exams take place.
It’s a time to remember that this is important but shouldn’t be all consuming. Help and support is available from all teachers, and students are part of the team too. It’s an important time to look after each other and ensure your friends and classmates are going ok.
Revision can be tricky, remember to study to your style, if you find reading text books difficult, take regular breaks and maybe look for visual resources too. Test papers from previous years are very useful in understanding how questions and tasks might be structured. Talk to your teachers about getting ‘past papers’ or access end of year past papers here:

Year 10 and 11 Students
Students should now be thinking about their pathways for 2023, it’s a good time to talk to family and school staff about the options you have. You may be interested in an ATAR course, in which case its important to ensure you talk to others about the challenges and benefits of this route through school. In Term 4, the school will be offering information about the many study options available.
CNC plasma in Metals
Mr Matson and Mr Hamilton in the Metals and Engineering section of the Trade Training Centre are eagerly awaiting the delivery of a new CNC Plasma cutting machine. We are looking forward to learning all about this equipment and experiencing the new technology in the Workshop area. It’s a real step forward and an example of how the College is determined to be industry current and offer students the best learning opportunities in all areas.
Exciting New Technology for the Engineering Workshop Coming Soon
The Metals and Engineering Department is very excited to announce that it has recently gained funding of approximately $30,000 for the procurement of a Trailblazer CNC Plasma Cutting Table.
The introduction of this technology will ensure that students in Engineering Pathways are exposed to current industry standards and have the opportunity to develop skills in the use of Computer Aided Design (CAD) in their metal projects.
As well as introducing students to innovative and efficient techniques to complete traditional fabrication and engineering tasks, the CNC Cutting Table will also open up a greater range of artistic and creative opportunities.
The table will be able to accommodate metal sheets of up to 1500mm x 1500mm and 0.5mm to 25mm in thickness. We will also be building an outrigger to support larger sheets if necessary.
The machine has just arrived in Australia and we expect to carry out the installation and commissioning during Term 4. Five or six staff members will be attending a day of training at Gentronics in Perth on the technicalities of the machine and the Software required to run it. We are currently organising computers for the Engineering Classroom to begin training students on the use of CAD Software. Trainers with the Engineering Department have also taken part in industry visits to HiMac Attachments in Albany to gain skills and knowledge on how this type of technology is currently used in industry.
Year 10 Study Tour
We are pleased to be putting the final plans in place for Year 10 Study Tour. This year we will depart from Denmark on 5th December, visiting businesses including Elders, Afgri, Westrac CAT, Patane Produce, Harvey Beef and a few more places in between. There will also be leisure stops in Manjimup, Mandurah and Bunbury.
Our accommodation is provided by the folks at Dare Adventure Camp in Dwellingup, this outdoor adventure camp is set on 12 acres only minutes away from the town of Dwellingup. Located next to the Murray River in among some of the finest jarrah forests WA has to offer.

The Tour will incur a cost of $350 for participating Year 10 students. Departing Monday 5th December and returning Friday 9th December. On Friday some drop off opportunities will be available in Kojonup and Mount Barker.
