It has been a terrific month – there has been a lot on and a great deal to celebrate. I experienced Open Day and it was wonderful to see so many families at our College observing the terrific activities that were on offer.

I am looking forward to the next month where we are supporting our Year 12’s to complete what they need to do before finishing up with us. It will certainly be sad to see them leave.

Year 12’s

Time is quickly running out for Year 12’s as they work towards finishing things off at WACOA – Denmark. Our final contact day with Year 12’s is Friday 21st October. Students must ensure they have completed required tasks and activities before being released from the College. Students will be given a Clearance Form sometime during week 9. This must be completed for students to be able to finish school at our College.

At some stage this week Year 12 students will receive information about important dates and activities. It will include such things as how to obtain a reference from the College.

It is an expectation that all Year 12 students return to the College in Term 4.

Year 10 Subject Selections

A presentation was held on Friday 9th September for Year 10 parents. Information about the programs offered by our College, as well as key information about Year 11 and 12 was presented. We look forward to supporting our Year 10 students with their transition into Year 11.

During the early part of Term 4 parents and Year 10 students will receive further information about what courses students can select from. A Subject Selection interview will be held involving each Year 10 student and their parent/guardian.

Work Experience

Over 30 of our students recently attended Work Experience. Our students were again excellent ambassadors of the College, with a range of impressive feedback coming in. Employers are always supportive of our students and the opportunities created for students can guide their future path.

Surveys show that 40% of school leavers who participated in work placements had secured full-time employment, compared to the national average of 32%. Over 20% of students seeking employment were offered jobs by their work placement employers.

We have recently sent out information to parents of Year 10 and Year 11 students about arranging work experience for late in Term 4. We find that students who approach employers directly and with advance notice have a high chance of securing their placement.

Please call the school if you need support.
