SENIOR SCHOOL NEWS
Firstly thankyou! The August 24th Information night was extremely well attended by parents, carers, students, and teachers who wanted to find out a little more about the new VCE VM! So far, the Vocational Major (VM) stream of the VCE has proven very popular and from my perspective, I am so excited about the new subjects, the increased focus on applied learning but also the fact that all students from 2023, will be aiming high to achieve a single VCE certificate to celebrate their journey in senior education.
Well done to all the current Year 9’s, 10’s and 11’s who have just completed the process of course counselling to discuss their subject choices, career pathways and future goals with us! This is an important time of year for everyone, but it has also been a privilege to work with you all individually so that we have a unique picture of what each students’ goals are going forward. The timetable is being formed now ready for Headstart, 2022-23.
THE GAT, 2022: Wednesday 7th September.
This year the GAT will look slightly different format to previous years and ALL VCE students study a 3-4 sequence as well as Senior VCAL (2022) students will sit this. The changes this year reflect the new VCE VM and the format will also look quite different (see below).
The first section of the GAT will be an opportunity for all students to attain a statement of Literacy & Numeracy skills to graduate with, which is a great change for all Victorian students.
The second section is designed to assist with moderating and predicting external examination scores ( Oct-November exams) and to ensure students who miss any end of year exams (for unforeseen circumstances), can apply for a Derived Examination Score – acting as a bit of an ‘insurance policy’ for the academic work students have been engaged in all year.
The GAT will be run in the PAC at KSC on the 7th – NEXT WEDNESDAY – so we will be looking at a day with NO BELLS (for the rest of the school), to help with the noise level.
It is an official VCAA exam and external assessment rules apply. All Senior students have been supplied with a sheet setting out the ‘rules and requirements’ but please come and see Ms Neill if you have any questions or concerns. 😊

The VCAA exam schedule has been released and we will be making sure all Unit 3-4 students have a copy of this on their schedule very soon. The first exam – always English – begins on Wednesday 26th October.
A final reminder that KSC Senior School coordinators & staff will again be running a very important series of PRACTICE EXAMS - on site at KSC in the STEAM building - for Unit 3-4 subjects starting Monday 19th September until Wednesday 21st.
Ms Creaser has put together a timetable for students so they can come in for these sessions and really focus on their exam preparation & skills for the October-November examination period.
We are volunteering our time over the school holidays so that students may maximise their study time and so that these sessions do not encroach on subject class time in weeks 1 & 2 of Term 4. Unit 3-4 students should check their schedules and make sure they leave time for this in the first three days of holidays if they are serious about exam success! Morning tea, drinks and snacks will be provided!
Our Senior School office door is always open and we are happy to be contacted any time via; TEAMS, Compass or email .
