SCHOOL LEADERSHIP MESSAGE
PRINCIPAL'S REPORT
School Review
We have drafted some preliminary goals for our next Strategic Plan, however, these are yet to be signed off by the Department. The Reviewer, Mr Branko Lukic will meet with staff and School Council and officially present the report early next term. In the interim, we know that we will be looking at the following goals across the next four years:
- To optimise literacy and numeracy outcomes for all students.
- To empower students to have greater agency in their learning.
- To enhance inclusive practices and strengthen student wellbeing capabilities.
The Leadership Team met this Wednesday to begin the process of setting our broad key improvement strategies for the next four years as well as planning our specific key improvement strategies for 2023.
Parent/Carer’s Survey
To date we have had 25 parents complete this survey. Our goal ideally is to get to 30. If you haven’t completed this survey, we would appreciate you taking the time to answer it. The details on how to log in etc have been emailed to all parents. Please contact us if you would like us to resend this information to you. This survey gives us valuable data and feedback on our strengths and areas for improvement. The more parents who answer the survey, the more accurate our averages/or the data is. The school has always enjoyed positive data from our community, but it is also useful to confirm where we might have improved or dipped depending on the year. This also tells us something about our performance.
Time In Lieu for Staff
Under the new agreement for school staff, staff will now be entitled to time in lieu if they work over the 38 hours. Basically, teaching staff already do overtime when they are correcting work and setting/planning work at home. The Department equates this to 5.6 hours per work, which in turn is acquitted over the school holidays. Staff who attend camps, Information Evenings, band before school, and excursions which extend beyond the 7.6 hours a day in which staff are normally expected to work, will accrue time in lieu. The main message of this move, is to try and reduce teacher workload, and to put some parameters around the amount of time staff commit outside of their normal working hours to their jobs. In the past, we have always adjusted our working week to accommodate things like Parent/Teacher Interviews, for example, we have cancelled after school meetings in that week.
Overall, we see this change as a positive move, one which will help teachers and staff manage their time and their commitments at home. From a parent’s perspective, we are not expecting that you will notice a great change, however, you may observe us being selective about what runs and what doesn’t run and you may see less staff at events like Information Evenings, and you may see staff leaving early or arriving late when TIL is being used. The general rule of thumb from the Department is that staff will not be granted TIL if it includes missing classes.
