Debating News

This term our two Lyndale Debating Teams participated in their final round of DAV debating for the year. B Grade team members, Danya Daoud, Haleemah Illyas and Ibraham Rifaie lost this round despite their intelligent and passionate arguments to the secret topic.  Our D Grade team members, Christina Shaiju, Kishore Ramesh (best speaker) and Aaliyah Heather, ended the season with a triumphant win against Haileybury by presenting a strong case for why they ‘do not regret the rise of social media in fighting crime’. Well done to all our debaters for representing our college, for taking on the challenge and having fun at the same time!  They tell me that they look forward to participating again next year! A special thanks also to Ms Graham who also attended the debates to support our students.

Excursion to The Lume and the NGV

The Lume
The Lume

Each year we like to take our students who lead literacy activities and clubs on an immersive excursion to enrich their literary experiences and to also celebrate their commitment and achievements. This year on the 11th of August, our Literacy Leaders, debaters, and homework club mentors were delighted to attend an excursion to The Lume- Van Gogh Experience and then to the National Gallery of Victoria.

Keerthana Karthikeyan from 7C sums up her experience:

It was the 1st time I'd actually been to an art gallery, and I've made up my mind to go again on the holidays. We first enjoyed the LUME; I loved all of Vincent van Gogh's paintings that were being projected on the walls, floors, and the ceiling!  Each stroke of colour was so profound as the mesmerizing music flew around the room. Lots of wise quotes Van Gogh had written in letters were projected too, and I snapped so many photos and took so many videos that my camera's storage was almost full. We spent a good couple hours there, with enough time to just relax on the floor or the landing area above that the stairs led to. Then, we walked for a good half an hour and hung out at Southbank. There were food-courts [and Ice cream!], clothing stores, and even a bookstore! We were free to roam around there for 30 mins. Finally, we travelled [on foot again] to the NGV (the National Gallery of Victoria). It was so fancy and lovely. The large area was filled with creations from various cultures and countries, perspectives, and time periods. I enjoyed walking through the gallery and observing all the different paintings, sculptures, fashion, and works of art on display. [some were even a bit creepy]. We were given a task that was based on how to view the art and had to answer questions about what we noticed, what we felt and what we thought it meant. I also took lots of pictures. [and I nearly got lost in the endless flight of stairs and curved hallways.] Overall, it was an unforgettably amazing experience!
