Many thanks to all of those families who have signed up for our Time & Space Evenings next week. Both evenings will commence in the JPC and parking will be available outside the JPC. Further details have been communicated to families, particularly around the need to be prepared with a treasured item. We thank our parents and loved ones for giving up their time in support of their sons for this experience.

Father Son Event: Wednesday 14,  6.45 pm for a 7.00 pm start

Subject Selection Evening

On Tuesday 30, we had a total of 426 parents/carers and children from Year 8 and 9 onsite to unpack the elective subject selection process. Our focus and theme of the night and moving forward is pathways from Year 9-12. There is plenty of dialogue around Year 11&12, however preparing for this from Year 9 is crucial. Boys in Year 8 are encouraged to think about what their elective will be over the course of Year 9 and 10. With this approach and mindset boys will be better informed in choosing subjects and pathways for Year 11 and beyond.

Community: 'Who is your measure?'

Last week was a difficult and confronting week for our community. It was a time when community and culture was constantly referenced, in reflection of a man who contributed so much towards our community and always had the desire and passion to improve the culture of how things were to be achieved. Mark Waddington’s message of being kind to one another is a great example of fostering and strengthening community and culture. The way in which both staff and students looked out for one another during this tough time is testament to this.

In reflecting upon working with Mr Waddington and looking at ways to continue his legacy, Father Suresh and I have been discussing "Who is our measure?"

Who do we look to for guidance, support and encouragement?

Who sets the standard and always embodies the right way of doing things no matter the situation?

For many in our community, Mark was this man. There are no doubt others in our community who offer this same support. As students our boys can offer this to one another and exemplify the true measure of the Virgilian Way. A great man once told me “It costs nothing to be gentle” and what a different world it would be if this was the norm. Last week, I couldn’t have been prouder to be part of this community in the way we embraced one another. As we move forward and honour those who have gone before us I encourage you to reflect on;

Who is your measure?

and

Remember It costs nothing to be gentle.
