Principal News

Dear Sacred Heart School Community,

Father's Day Celebration

As mentioned in previous newsletters we will celebrate Fathers Day on Friday 2nd September.

This year we have organised a Father's Evening commencing at 6.30pm in our school's multi purpose room. Courtesy of Joane (Mum of Chloe in Year One and Domino's Pizza) food will be supplied and drinks (soft drink and tea/coffee). There is no charge for the event and we would love to see as many dads there as possible. It will be a great opportunity to mix, socialise and have some fun. We will have a couple of fund raising games so make sure you bring along some $1 and $2 coins. The night is for dads/grandads/nonno's and carers to have some fun. The event will conclude around 8.30pm.

Dancing Classes

As mentioned in last two newsletters, dancing classes with Angela will resume on Monday 5th September. Parents may remember from pre COVID times, Angela offers classes one night a week (this year on a Monday) straight after school from 3.30 till 4.30 in our school. Initially we are offering this seven week program to students from Year Two to Year Six (on the previous two occasions we had approximately twenty students involved). If we have spots available we will open up to younger classes. The lessons cost $5.00/week with the students involved performing at our school dinner dance. Angela will have letters with permission slips available next week for interested families. If you want your child to be enrolled in this program, please let me know and I will provide the relevant documentation which has arrived from Angela.

Dinner Dance

Whilst our dinner dance is predominately a great social occasion with families and their children enjoying a fun night together, it is also an opportunity to raise some funds for our school. As mentioned in last week's newsletter, we would like to put together some hampers with goods donated by our families. Each class is responsible for organising a hamper and these will be presented in the weeks before the dance with parents having the opportunity to place a bid for their purchase. Detailed below are the hampers each class has been set to organise and items can start being sent to school as of tomorrow.

We are also looking for some raffle prizes on the night and silent auction items. If you have a business, know of someone who has a business or would like to purchase an item to donate your help will be greatly appreciated. For instance we already have a brand new toddler booster seat donated by Sunny and Gauri (parents of Veer in Year 3/4). Pictured below are some gift cards that have been donated by businesses and by our own families for which we are most grateful.

Hampers

Yr Prep: Pampering, Year One: Cooking, Year Two: Children's Games/Toys, Year Three/Four Gardening, Year Four/Five: Sport (correction) and Year Five/Six: Art and Craft (correction)

MACSSIS

As mentioned in the last two newsletters, this year’s MACSSIS will be open from Monday 29 August to Friday 16 September 2022. We are looking for approximately 30 families to complete an online confidential survey, giving our school feedback on how parents perceive our school is operating across a number of areas. If you would like to participate in the survey, please email me and I will send you a link to the survey and a nonidentifiable password in the week before the survey opens. We need feedback that is honest hence my reticence to ask parents personally.

Enrolments for 2023

Whilst enrolments for Year Prep 2023 unofficially closed at the end of last term, we still have positions for Year Prep in 2023. We will therefore continue to take applications. If you know of any families who would like a tour, please encourage them to contact the school by phone or email.

New Date

As mentioned in our last newsletter, we have planned second school closure day for this term as we were not able to procure a facilitator last term for staff professional development. The date is Monday 12th September. The focus of the day will be on our students' ability to use "restorative practices" and their "social and emotional learning".

Please be aware that After School Care will be provided on our school closure day, Wednesday 31st August from 7.00am till 6.00pm. See our coordinator Jaime to book in. I will speak to Jaime about offering the program on the second school closure day

We will discuss the upcoming National Child Protection Week and what policies and procedures we have in place to ensure our student's safety in next week's newsletter

This week's Joke (From the Parish Bulletin)

Walking along a Tasmanian beach a laywoman was deep in thoughtful prayer. Suddenly she cried out, “Lord, please grant me one wish.” The sky darkened and from the heavens a loud booming voice said, “Because you have had faith to ask, I will grant you one wish.” The woman said, “Thank you Lord. I hate to fly but I’d love to go to the Australian mainland. Please build a bridge across Bass Strait so I can drive to Victoria whenever I want.” The Lord chastised the woman for such a selfish request and reminded her of the difficulty of constructing a bridge, saying, “Think of the logistics. Think of the supports required to reach the bottom of Bass Strait! Then there’s the concrete and steel! I can do it but it’s hard for me to justify your desire for worldly things. Do you have another wish that would honour and glorify me?” The woman stopped to consider God’s question. “Okay Lord, I wish I could understand men better. I want to know how they feel inside, what they’re thinking, what they mean when they say there’s nothing bothering them.” After a few minutes silence God said, “You want two lanes or four on that bridge?”

Take care.

P & F meeting

Just a reminder that there will be a P & F meeting on Monday 29th August (this Monday coming) at 9am. All welcome to attend in the staffroom.

Yours Sincerely
