Principal's Report

September 2022

There have been a number of events that have occurred over late August and September, which have demonstrated how we all work together with students, staff and members of our school community producing outstanding events and celebrations.

In this report I wish to highlight 3 of the many such events.

Year 12 VCAL Food Truck Festival

The whole college greatly enjoyed the inaugural Year 12 VCAL Food Truck Festival that our year 12 VCAL students planned and ran during lunch time as an activity on Monday 29 August 2022. This lunch time activity enabled them to meet their Senior Personal Development Skills subject outcomes and many other outcomes from other VCAL strands and subjects as well. Our Year 12 VCAL students were well supported on the day and they experienced much success in the delivery of this very complex lunchtime activity.

Although the weather was not kind to us on the day (it seemed to rain all day!), we still had a wonderful experience and ate food from many nationalities and cultural backgrounds. Our students showcased their hard work in making this occur.

I congratulate all of our Year 12 VCAL students and their staff for their hard work and effort. In particular, I wish to thank Ms Carmela Sant and Mr Tom Cullum for their leadership and enormous contribution. Well done.

RUOK? Day

I thank all the staff and students for their time and effort on Thursday in helping the college run a very successful RUOK? Day.

Comments that were made to me on the day highlighted the enormous understanding, support and empathy displayed by the staff of the college towards our students and families. Several students also commented on how much they enjoyed the very engaging activities.

On behalf of the college, I thank the many staff who helped make this event so successful, and in particular all the members of the Student Support Staff of the college, for the effort and enthusiasm that they put into the RUOK? day and their attention to detail. Well done.

Student Progress and Parent Teacher Interviews

Student skills and knowledge that have developed over the term, can be seen in the student’s workbook and assessment pieces. I am delighted to see our students’ producing projects that can be proudly presented in our reception area, ranging from large pieces of furniture to paintings and drawings. While visiting classrooms, I have observed students learning and participating in group work and discussions with quality work being accomplished.

Can I also take this opportunity to let all of you know that we will be running our face-to-face Parent/Teacher/Student interviews during the first week of Term 4, on Tuesday 4 October 2022. Details of this process has been published to families so please do take this opportunity to book interviews as soon as possible.

During Parent/Teacher/Student interviews, we will be discussing the work that has been completed and any areas that need to be addressed. It is extremely important to have discussions with families regarding their children’s progress, so that academic excellence and progress can be acknowledged, and areas of concern can be addressed.

As we move into the final part of semester two, the students have been reminded that their work should be something that they are proud to present to their teachers, their parents, and their principal. I look forward attending classrooms where the students readily show me their work and discuss what they are learning.  As we keep working towards having our students working at their best in our classes, we ask that parents also ask to look at the work that has been completed in all their subjects throughout the year.

I wish all Kurunjang Secondary College community a very safe and restful term break.
