VCE High Achievers

VCE High Achievers Enrichment Day

"On Wednesday 10 August, St Bede’s College hosted the inaugural High Achievers Enrichment Day.  Fifteen Year 12 students were selected to participate in an intensive presentation designed by the Educational Consultant Company ‘Success Integrated’.

The Guest Speaker, Himal Pillay encouraged the High Achievers to strive to achieve their best with the great opportunities they have.  Himal taught us some unique strategies that have helped many high achievers across other Colleges to excel in all aspects of life.

Following a lovely morning tea provided by the College, we attended a individually designed guided tour of Monash University (Clayton Campus).  The Campus was buzzing when we arrived, there were pop-up displays, recruitment drives, and music blaring outside the famous Menzies Building. We certainly were quickly introduced to the exciting sights and smells of campus life.

Firstly, Miss Stammers escorted us to the main Campus library, where we navigated our way through the hundreds of studying students, to really immerse ourselves in what it might be like to be a university student. Following this, we were welcomed with another presentation, this time giving us a detailed outline of the countless career pathways offered by Monash. It was another amazing opportunity to really explore what life at university could entail.

Next came the tour of the campus, where we visited the law, science and health areas, as requested by most of us.  Excitingly, we even got an impromptu tour of the inside of a robotics engineering lab, from St Bede’s alum Mr Phil Pawlowski, who just happened to recognise the blue blazers and was kind enough to show us around his workshop. Phil is the senior technician at Monash University and we were able to enter the student restricted areas to see these amazing technological designs in action.  After some free lunch, courtesy of one of the many Monash University Clubs, we had some more time to explore any other area of the Campus that interested us before hopping on the bus and returning to St Bede’s.

The experience taught us so much about what university will really look like, and it provided some amazing motivation to keep working hard as we near the end of our Year 12 and our wonderful journey as St Bede’s students."
