Science Week in 3D!

Last week in 3D, students celebrated National Science Week by creating a marble run! As the theme for this year is glass, we firstly discovered new information about how marbles are made by heating and shaping glass – wow!

Students then designed, created and tested a marble run made from recycled materials they bought from home. They were free to use their imagination apart from one requirement – that it needed to have at least 2 turns. 3D did a wonderful job using a range of resources and came up with some successful designs that were all very different!

“The Science Week lesson was fun! We invented a slide and we were hoping to add a trap door but we didn’t have time. I liked our design because there was a slide and a ramp which made it easy for the marble to roll through!” – Chenuka

“We designed and built a marble run. It was challenging to build what we drew on paper, but we worked it out. We had a couple of new ideas that we added in the design stage. One of these new ideas was using cups to make a tube. We also added a wall to make it more like an obstacle course. Our group was successful, because even though it was tricky, we used our ideas and still made it at the end!” – Olivia

“I liked that we made something that uses our imagination to make a maze for the marble to run! Our group used recycled materials such as paper, cardboard and icy pole sticks. The challenging part was building our design because sometimes if you build it, it falls down so we must make sure that nothing will fall out.” – Linh
