Kids Corner

The “Kids’ Corner” section of our school newsletter provides the opportunity for the children to showcase their talents or communicate something special. This fortnight I have taken the opportunity to share some of the Year 6’s reflections about their camp:

“I feel like camp is a great way to learn new skills, as there are many activities that show you how to do things properly as you get older. For example, at Year 6 camp this year, we slept in cabins with a few friends. This taught us how to do things more independently. This will come in handy as eventually, your children will be doing most of your work in much smaller groups.” - Navindu 6E

“Today was a really fun day! I learnt lots of things and made lots of new friends.  We all settled in really well.  We did lots of new activities and learnt lots of skills, like climbing. The activities helped us develop vital skills like resilience and teamwork. All in all, the first day of camp was really good!” - Ravindu 6D

“Hello, it’s me, Jiya from 6F. It’s so fun here. Even though sometimes it’s challenging, you still feel like you can keep going. When doing raft-building on the first day (Tuesday), the boat started falling apart and I fell into the water. It went up to my waist. But even though it was upsetting, it’s like once in primary school. I doesn’t matter what happened, it’s what you enjoyed.” :) - Jiya 6F.

“I am having fun at camp and I am thinking of being safe when going down the hill.  I slipped in mud 3 times during disc golf and I am okay.”  - Hishan 6B

The impressive gumboots by Aditi from 6A
I first thought that how not to be wet or muddy or not fall and have your pants destroyed because of the excessive mud was to just stay off the muddy area. I will say, that does work, but it doesn’t stop you from skidding off the pebbles and landing bottom-first in a flat, wet puddle. Then the most show-stopping, mind-blowing invention comes into place. The gumboots give you ultra protection from the precarious, wet mud hiding in the wet grass. The best part, is one swipe with a tissue and it is all clean!

“Camp ADANAC is fun but there are a lot of skills we need to learn.  Luckily we have our teachers and the ADANAC staff. For example, today I took a risk by pushing my team’s boat into the water because no one wanted to. My pants were really wet sadly but I used initiative.” – Vihas 6B

“I feel like the first day was a very valuable experience because a lot of the activities I haven't done before. For example, low ropes helped build my trust, you must trust people around you to build connections. I feel like the hidden message today was to always try different things. The low ropes looked challenging at first, but when I got words of encouragement from my friends, I was able to overcome that small obstacle. I'm excited about canoeing because last time I had someone who I really trusted. I am looking forward to experiencing that fun again.” - Archis 6C
