Book Week

This Week at GWPS we have been celebrating Book Week! The purpose of Book Week is to celebrate Australian children's authors and illustrators as well as encourage reading.

On Monday we held a Book Week Assembly, in which the whole school dressed up as their favourite book character, even some of the teachers. We had multiple learners across the school share their stories, favourite author’s and reading statistics. The money raised will be used to purchase Take Home Readers and Classroom library books.

A Book Viewing has taken place, in which all classes have had the opportunity to view a selection of new books and create a Wishlist of what they would like in the classroom and as Take Home Readers.

Throughout the week learners from P-6 have engaged in learning tasks utilisng the Children’s Council Book of Australia Notable book of 2022 ‘Day Break’ by Amy McQuire and Matt Chun. Through the book ‘Day Break’ the learners have explored different perspectives and also make connections. They have explored the theme of book week ‘Dreaming with Eyes Open’ through sustained writing sessions and pieces will be collected to create a book in the library.

Below are just some photos of some of the GWPS learners engaging with the book week festivities!
