OSHClub

What we’ve been up to at OSHC!

We have had an amazing few weeks at OSHClub as we’ve got stuck into our new after-school clubs! Within these clubs our term goals of focus have centred around building an awareness of culture, specifically Japanese culture and the Olympics.

Art Club

During art club the children developed their awareness of Japanese culture as they’ve created a range of origami sculptures! It’s been fantastic to see what the children have developed and our educators were amazed and entertained as the children created their own puppet show using their new creations! Great work everyone!

Did you know?

Origami is the art of paper folding and originated in Japan.

Sports Club

Building upon physical wellbeing and fundamental motor skills of running, kicking, and jumping, Luca had so much fun playing Japanese ‘Cuju’ (soccer). Luca was super excited when he beat Laura with five goals to three!

Did you know?

Cuju is an ancient Japanese ball game.

Cooking Club

The children were so excited as they engaged with our cooking club experiences! Exploring a Japanese cultural food, the children developed their fine motor skills as they practiced rolling and building their own sushi rolls! The children were also engaged in discussions about how these foods can help our bodies to stay healthy. Yummy!

“I know how to make sushi, I make it at home all the time!”- Luca, Prep.

Habitat Heroes

In Sustainability Club, the children became Habitat Heroes as they collected rubbish from around the school and kept our environment clean and healthy! Good work everybody!

Coding Club

Students had the best time in Coding Club as they developed their problem-solving capacities to develop code for their avatars. Working in teams and individually, the children got super creative as they made their avatars dance and run through mazes. Check out their awesome coding creations below!

Family Tree

Recently at OSHC, we’ve been working on the creation of our OSHClub family tree. Charlie in Grade 1 has helped to paint the sign for this area and has been the first family to join our tree. We hope to use this space as an area to celebrate the different cultures and families that make up the OSHC community at St James.

If you currently attend OSHC, we would greatly appreciate if you could send through a family photo so that we can build our tree!

Spotlight on the Community

This week we are sharing some information about our local community gardens located at St Stephen’s! Only a few minutes’ walk from St James, the St Stephen’s community gardens is a wonderful place for people to come together to share knowledge, skills, respect, and creativity to grow food and nurture our environment. If you’re looking for somewhere to share in fresh, local produce with your family, take a short walk down to the community gardens and show your children how amazing it can be to grow your own food!

More information about the community gardens can be found here.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT:
