Jump Rope for Heart 2021

Year 8 participated in Jump Rope for Heart on Tuesday 15 June. This is an annual event where we raise money for The Heart Foundation to combat Australia's biggest killer-Cardiovascular Disease. Jump Rope for Heart has become an annual tradition at our school and dates back to the 1980's when past student Fiona Coote became the youngest person in Australia to have a heart transplant. More recently in 2017, Year 11 student Jack Cutcliffe suffered heart complications and sadly passed away. It is vital that we raise funds for research into this disease.

This day involves students in small friendship groups skipping and jumping their way through four periods of music and challenges. The costumes of some individuals and groups also added to the carnival nature of the day. Once again, the day was wonderfully supported with the year group raising much needed funds for the National Heart Foundation. The total raised was $3,010.55. Two students Max Te Aho and Zachary Culbert raised over $500 each which was a phenomenal effort. In addition, Mikeeli Tyrell, Kaitlyn Rheinberger, Grace Palmer and Hannah Pawsey raised over $200 and we commend them for their efforts.

As well as fundraising, the students were given an insight as to how much fun exercise can be. The day reinforced many of the key messages taught by the PDHPE KLA with regard to healthy lifestyle and lifelong physical activity.

I congratulate and thank all those year 8 students who contributed so much to a very worthwhile day. The students had positive feedback about the event and found it to be a worthwhile day. Congratulations to Zac Whalan, Bree Elliott and Hayden Hunt who were named best skippers on the day.

Other noted students were Elle-May Stewart-Desborough for her enthusiasm and assistance on the day. Also Bryce Walsh and Abbigaille Reverr are commended on their performance for the push-up challenge.

I would also like to thank Mrs Tanya Laird, Mr Bernie Williams, Mr Ryan Saban, Mr Damien Kenniff, Mr Brad Mitchell and Mr Andrew Davy for working alongside the students and allowing the day to run so smoothly.
