Music @ McCarthy

Term 2 has been busy for the Music Program at McCarthy.
The members of the Junior Band have continued to work with their tutors. Students are becoming more proficient on their instruments, and this term we were able to perform some pieces together as a band.
The Jazz Band, Concert Band and Ensembles have spent this term preparing for both the Tamworth Eisteddfod and for the Queensland Catholic Schools and Colleges Music Festival.
The Tamworth Eisteddfod was held on Thursday 17 June at the Tamworth Town Hall. It was a wonderful day, where not only did our ensembles perform, but we were also able to watch many other great performances from both Primary and Secondary schools within the region.
The results for the Eisteddfod are as follows:
Small Ensembles 18 years and under:
1st Place: McCarthy Catholic College Brass Ensemble
2nd Place: McCarthy Catholic College Flute Ensemble
Stage Band (10-20 players) 18 years and under:
1st Place: St Marys Gunnedah
2nd Place: McCarthy Catholic College Jazz Band
3rd Place: Calrossy Anglican School
Concert Band 18 years and under:
1st Place: St Marys Gunnedah
2nd Place: McCarthy Catholic College Jazz Band
3rd Place: Calrossy Anglican School
On Wednesday 21 June, due to COVID restrictions the McCarthy Ensembles recorded their performances for the Queensland Catholic Schools and Colleges Music Festival. Live performances will only be by local schools in Brisbane and other participating schools record their performances for each category and submit these. The recorded performances are then live-streamed, with live adjudication at the conclusion of each section. While we are disappointed about not being able to attend the Festival in Brisbane this year, we are still excited to participate
Congratulations and thank you to our students on their dedication in preparing for these performances, and for their continued involvement in the band program.
