A message from the Principal

Ms Nerina Pretlove

The challenges rising from the Covid-19 pandemic have continued to present issues for our families and the wider school community and at the same time, our Afghani families are facing the tragedy that is emerging in their homeland.

We were happy to see many of our Year 12 students take advantage of the vaccination program run at Qudos Arena last week. NSWHealth has opened up more local vaccination opportunities for those who are 16 years and up. Please seek current information from the NSWHealth website. We also suggest using the Department of Education’s Covid-19 website to seek the latest HSC information from the NESA website.

In Weeks 9 and 10, Year 12 students will undertake online testing across some of their subjects. We recognise that at this time it can be challenging to provide quiet spaces. Please accommodate your young person to have the optimum environment to complete their testing. We also recognise the challenges for Year 11 students to undertake their final exams and have decided to cancel them. This will not impact upon their progression into Year 12 at the beginning of next term.

At the time of writing this, we do not have any guidelines for the dates and the processes for the return to school for either Year 12 or the remainder of the school. Teachers will be providing face-to-face online learning across each of their subjects commencing this week. We have distributed a set of guidelines for student and staff interactions in the digital space including the blurring of all backgrounds and the wearing of appropriate clothing. As well, the next two weeks’ hard copy work packages should be arriving at the homes of those who requested them.

Last week, we commenced our first Feel Good Fridays with students engaging in fun activities on the hour. It was great to see their interaction with each other and we are looking forward to more students joining in next Friday’s activities. Congratulations to all those students who have received a delivery of donuts in acknowledgment of their quality completion of their work as part of our Friday EvansTreats competition.

Our thoughts are with the people of Afghanistan heritage in our local community who are worried about their loved ones and for everyone who contributed to support our veterans and are now at risk.
