Murder Mystery in the Library

On the last Thursday in May at lunchtime, you would have been forgiven for thinking you had walked into a 1920’s Jazz Club instead of the school library. Our library space had been transformed into a swinging jazz club complete with music, the librarians in their best flapper outfits, students in costumes and, of course, intrigue.

Thirty students, ranging from Year 7 to Year 12, volunteered to participate in our fun lunchtime activity.

All students were allocated a character role including being either a guest, entertainer, or staff member. At the midpoint of the activity, one of the players made a terrible discovery: someone had been murdered! It was then up to the students to investigate amongst themselves as to who was the guilty one and why did they do it!

It was fabulous to see all students collaborating and working together to piece the clues together and work out who was guilty. All students embraced their characters and entered the spirit of the performance. Several students need to be singled out though and these include Hayden Beasy Yr. 12 as Cecil and Jarrod Newton Yr. 12 as Mr. Gebhardt. Special mention must also go to Aneeq Mohideer Yr. 10 for, not only his great performance as Edgar, but also for suggesting to the library staff to host a ‘murder mystery’ activity one lunchtime.

Finally, an extra special thanks to Miss. Montalto in the library for organising the activity and her hard work in ensuring the activity ran like clockwork.
