St Mary of the Cross- Mary Mackillop

This Sunday, we celebrate the feast day of our parish patron saint - Mary of the Cross. Throughout her life, Mary showed her faith in God in her acts of service and care for the poor and education of children.  Mary’s love for children grew out of her experience of loving and caring for her own brothers and sisters whom she loved dearly. Her concern was to let them know they were valued and loved and could make good choices in their lives. In her work of educating children, Mary showed in practical ways that children were important members of society.  She also taught compassion and a way of being of service to the poor, out of great love and respect for those in any need.

The Liturgy and Social Justice team have recorded a short prayer service that the classes will participate in tomorrow.

News from 1/2D

Welcome Back!

The year 1/2's have been so excited to be back at school and we are grateful to have them back in our classrooms!

1/2D have been having all sorts of fun with their learning this week. We had a ‘Potato Themed Olympics’ where students problem solved and worked together in groups to complete 6 different activities. Some of these included, potato weightlifting, potato target roll and a potato spoon race.

During Maths we have been investigating fractions. In particular, the students have been exploring the term ‘equal size’ and understanding a fraction is part of a whole.

Be sure to check out our class assembly as the kids had lots of fun recording and acting out some of the scenes. They did a fantastic job!

You might like to do the ‘Jungle Race’ with your family too.

Hope to see you all soon,

Miss Dirckze

BOOK WEEK - 21 to 27 AUGUST

This year we will be celebrating Book Week with:

  • Friday 20 August, Incursion (hopefully) Meerkats Production
  • Thursday 26 August, Crazy Hair Day
  • Friday 27 August, Book Dress Up Day, Parade and Book Week activities

We are hoping to start the celebration of Book Week with a production on Friday 20 August, although this will be subject to Covid 19 restrictions. Thursday we will enjoy Crazy Hair Day. The Dress Up parade on Friday will begin  at 9am. Children may come dressed as their favourite children’s book character.  Please don’t go to any expense, try and use what you have at home such as onsies and what might be in your dress up play boxes. Google and Pinterest are wonderful sources of ideas—just make it fun!

Carolyn Yass

Our school benefits by receiving a generous commission (up to 35%) in the form of books or cash, to add to the resources in our school.

We will update you with restriction guidelines as to whether parents are allowed to be onsite to help or browse the Book Fair before or after school.
