Term 2
The term is almost at an end and I wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone for helping to make this a successful term. We have wrapped up the term with a celebration of student learning at the Three-Way Conferences. A great chance to hear about the wonderful learning this term. We wish all families a wonderful break and look forward to seeing everyone back on Monday 12 July.
We are looking forward to the start of next term when our Grade 3 and 4 students head off to camp; our two wonderful evenings of "Pirates of the Curry Bean" and our Whole School Athletics Carnival at Proclamation Park. We can't wait to catch up with our parent community at these important events.
McClelland Sculpture Park
After a number of false starts our Grade 3 and 4 students headed off to McClelland Sculpture Park today to wrap up their unit of work ''How we express ourselves". Check out these great shots:
Uniform Reminder
As the cold weather has settled in we ask that all students move to wearing the winter uniform. For both boys and girls the uniform is plain black tracksuit pants or shorts, polo shirt and the school jumper with the logo. Rain jackets are to be worn outside during recess and lunch breaks. If you are buying new shoes for school over the holiday break please ensure they are plain black or white runners or shoes, coloured runners are best left for after school and at weekends.
Foundation 2022 Enrolment
We are currently accepting enrolments for Foundation 2022. We have taken many tours of prospective, and some current, families and are please to see the enrolments coming in now for next year. If you have a child due to start school next year please touch base with the office for an enrolment form, or send back one you have already received. Acceptance letters are going home soon.
'Pirates of the Curry Bean'
For two glorious nights we will be entertained by our marvellous students on stage at Karralyka Theatre. Rehearsals, prop construction and costume planning is well under way. All students are nearly ready to showcase their singing and dancing prowess. Tickets are available via the school office, just call with your credit card handy and get ready to be amazed.
Positive Education News
The Maroondah Positive Education Network in partnership with Eastland and the Maroondah City Council are bringing URSTRONG's Friendology program to life in Eastland. As you might be aware, this program teaches our young people how to manage their own relationship issues via a common 'kid’ friendly language that empowers them to do that. The outcomes from this work is that our students are becoming better at managing their own friendship issues, can acknowledge and deal with “Friendship Fires” before they get out of control. In this interactive space, different schools in the Maroondah Council will be displaying what they are learning each month, which will be a different topic that fuels friendships – i.e. Friendship is RESPECT in June. This month Mullum is featured in the UR Strong Friendology Ninja Zone at Eastland. If you are visiting Eastland in the holidays, please call past the Ninja Zone, located in the Link Mall, level 1 near Coffee Club – opposite the Maternal and Child Health Centre.
Foundation – Fairy-tale Challenge
Foundations are ending the term with a BANG! After learning about a range of fairy-tales this term, the students have been challenged by Rumpelstiltskin to save Cinderella. They are required to use their problem solving and team work skills to complete a variety of fairy-tale activities to gain a letter that will form a hidden word.
The students have been challenged whilst creating a bridge for the troll in the Three Billy Goats Gruff, and put to the test to help Rapunzel escape her tower by measuring her hair length. They have had a great time designing their own Gingerbread Man, and creating a safe apple tree for Snow White to eat.
Creating Powerful Sentences
Grade Fours are using their five senses and powerful adjectives to compose interesting sentences.
The crackling sticks were just as annoying as the repetitive stomping coming from the outer halls.
Mitchell
When I look at the beautiful posters, the loud and annoying kids distract me.

Big, fluffy white marshmallows floated drunkenly around my mug of scalding hot chocolate.
Henry
As I sat on the fake grass I heard the buzzing of a chainsaw and felt the satisfying crunch of a maple leaf.
