Staff Profiles

Marie Lubiana - Support Worker

In this newsletter we bring you the second of our 'staff profiles'.  This is a fabulous way for you all to put a face to a name and get to know a little bit more about us and what we do here at the College. Each and every single member of staff is as valuable as the next and they all do their part to make this College an amazing place to work and an exceptional place for your child to complete their education.

Second up, and in no particular order, out of 70 staff members here at WACOA - Denmark we have the wonderful, Marie Lubiana.

Marie is super friendly and always wears her "mum hat" making the students feel like they are at home and treating them the way she treats her own child. She is one very special lady and the students are very lucky to have her not only ironing their clothes but also cleaning their bedrooms, living areas and classrooms too.

Let's just say that some students may have a bit of a shock once they leave these comforts behind them and move on to new ventures, but I bet they won't forget all that the Support Workers do for them.

In her own words Marie shares with us a little bit about herself.

"My daughter and I moved to Denmark 16 years ago.

As a single parent, Denmark has been a great place to bring up my daughter. I was able to find work that allowed myself to take her with me when she was little and before she started school.

At the age of 8, Ebony discovered Karate to which we both became involved, her as a student and myself as a supporter. Ebony is now a 3rd Dan Black Belt after 9 plus years and a lot of hard work training.

She was recently invited with her Sensei and 3 other students to attend a Karate Seminar in Melbourne. The seminar was with 3 Japanese instructors (Masters in Japan) to train in Traditional Shotokan Karate, this was an amazing experience for all of them and for me it was an experience just to see her attend such a major event.

I have now been working at the College for the past 3 years as a Support Worker, which covers all aspects of cleaning from classroom to residential. I also work in the laundry and on occasion in the kitchen. I'm always up for a chat with both staff and students.
