Prayer of the Week and News from Holy Spirit School and Parish/Fr Arsenio

Advent

Advent is a special time in the church year when we prepare and get ready to celebrate

the birth of Jesus. The first Sunday Advent this year is Sunday 27th of November

The word ‘Advent’ means ‘coming’. Lighting the candles on the wreath symbolises the coming of light (Jesus) into the world. The first candle (violet) represents hope, the second (violet) peace, the third (rose) joy, and the fourth (violet) love. The central white candle is lit on Christmas Day and represents Christ. This Advent we will learn, act and pray for a more just and fair world – a world full of hope, peace, joy and love.

Next week we will commence our Advent liturgies. These will take place each week in the Church  at 9:00 and will be presented by different levels

Week One Wednesday 23/11     5/6  Hope

Week Two Wednesday 30/11     1/2  Peace

Week Three Wednesday 7/12     3/4  Joy

Week Four Tuesday 13/12           3/4  Love

Christmas hampers

Once again this year our school will be collecting items for Christmas Hampers  which the Parish St Vincent de Paul group will distribute to local families. Each class has been allocated a family to collect for. A list of  suggested items will be sent home.

PARISH FORTNIGHTLY

During the month of November, the remembrance book with names of those who have died, will be placed on the altar and will be remembered in our prayers.  If you would like to register the names of your loved ones please email or call the Parish Office on 7036 9395.

We have a shortage of musicians and singers at our weekend masses.  We need volunteers to come forward.  No previous experience of playing or singing is necessary.  We need keyboard players, guitarists and others, as well as singers.  If you are interested please call Maree on 0411 750 462 or Marilyn on 0415 878 984.  Especially as Christmas is just around the corner.  We would love to hear from you.

2023 Columban Calendars are available for purchase from the Church foyer at $10.00 each.  These are beautifully illustrated calendars and would make a lovely Christmas present.  Proceeds go to support the St Columban’s Mission Society.

Sing Australia Concert to be held at Holy Spirit Community Centre on Sunday 20th November at 2.00 pm.  It is a fun concert, toe-tapping, thought provoking and you will feel welcomed.  Afternoon tea is provided.  General admittance of $15, concession $10 and children are free.  So why not come along for a bit of entertainment next Sunday afternoon.

With Christmas just around the corner, this weekend we will be seeking volunteers to fill various roles at our Christmas masses.  There will be sign-up sheets at the back of the Church where you can add your name.  Roles to be filled include:  Reading, Offertory procession, laptop operators, help with setting up, money collectors just to name a few roles needed to be filled.

Christmas mass times will be:  Christmas Eve 5pm, 7pm and 10.30 pm.  Christmas Day 9.00 am mass only.
