Year 10 Exam Workshop

The year 10s participated in two workshops with Amanda from Organising Students this term, one addressing strategies in becoming a successful senior student and the other looking at exam tips. We hope they have taken away some key tips and tricks to be implemented into their learning programs and study schedules as they prepare for their exams and future senior years at Altona College.

 

Unit 2 Health and Human Development 

Over the last 2 terms, students from Ms Newton’s Unit 2 Health & Human Development class, had the opportunity to experience parenthood firsthand with Altona College’s first simulation baby. Student experiences were varied, interesting and insightful! Here are some snaps of our “baby robot.” We can’t wait to use “baby robot” again next year.

Year 7 Digital Technologies

Our Year 7s have started their last unit of working where they are learning to program microprocessors called “Micro:Bit”. They have explored the different features it has and written codes to make animations. 

Year 10 Legal Studies Excursion 

Yesterday Year 10 Legal Studies students visited the Old Melbourne Gaol, the watchhouse and old Magistrates Court for a culpable driving mock trial. A great learning experience was had by all students. 

 

Year 10 Applied Computing

As part of the unit of Collaborative Project, students are looking into how their online data is used. Last week they participated in a debate where they chose from given ethical issues in computing, and debated for and against the following statements:

  • “Social media has a damaging impact on teenagers’ mental health and should be banned.”
  • “Video games have a negative impact on children’s social behaviour and should be banned.”
