From the Principal

Benvenuto - Welcome

Today we had a moving Remembrance Day ceremony at the college where there was acknowledgement of the ongoing sacrifices of the women and men who have served in our armed forces. The Flanders Fields poem was shared along with prayers and a flag ceremony with the playing of the Reveille and the Rouse. At the same time, some of our staff and students were representing the college at the RSL ceremony at the Shepparton Cenotaph where we laid a commemorative wreath. These days provide a rich opportunity for our college community to reflect on history and its impact of who we are and how we live today. There is further coverage of Remembrance Day throughout this edition of il giornale.

It was so wonderful to celebrate the Sacrament of First Reconciliation with our Sacramental candidates at Christ the King Church as part of the St Mel’s Parish last night. The following children participated in this first part of their sacramental journey through Reconciliation, Confirmation and Eucharist. They will continue their formation at the beginning of next year in the lead-up to the celebration of Confirmation and Eucharist.

I share with you information and a link to a newly released film which responds to Pope Francis’ encyclical letter – titled ‘Laudato Si’. The message within the letter encourages us to see how “everything is connected.” The way we treat the Earth, our common home, is a reflection of how we treat each other. Caring for each other means caring for the home we share.

The Australian Catholic Bishop’s Council Office for Justice, Ecology and Peace has released a film –‘The Letter’ in response to this encyclical. In the film, many perspectives are shared beautifully and powerfully. Each person represents a voice that is not being heard – the voice of the Indigenous, the voice of the young, the voice of the poor, and the voice of nature. The film follows these people coming together in dialogue with each other and Pope Francis himself. The film closes with Pope Francis’ words, "We all need each other. None of us is an island. And we can only build the future by everyone standing together." I encourage you to take a look at  The Letter - Laudato Si Film

I hope that you have a restful and enjoyable weekend.
