Languages Day Wednesday 30th November

We will be holding Languages Day on Wednesday 30th November.

 

Students are invited to dress in a Chinese or French Theme.  

Students are also welcome to bring Chinese or French Food for their own snack/lunch.

Below is a list of ideas. 

 

We will be having an assembly at 9am which will inculde Chinese Dancers and a dress up parade.  Parents are more than welcome to attend (and dress up too if you like!!)

The Crepe Man will also be selling Crepes between 8.30am and 9am if you would like to purhase one. (See Crepe Day page for more information)

 

Ideas for Chinese Costumes:

Popular Colours (red and gold)

Popular Animals (panda, lion, dragon, and Chinese Zodiac Animals).

Chinese Monuments (Great Wall of China, Forbidden City, Terracotta Warriors).

Chinese Accessories (fan and ribbon).

Chinese Sports (badminton, Tai Chi, martial arts, Chinese chess, etc).

Chinese Cartoon Characters (Kung Fu Panda, Mulan,                                                            Monkey King, etc).

Four Inventions of Ancient China (compass, gunpowder, papermaking, and printing).

Chinese Actors (Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Bruce Lee).

Ideas for French costumes:

French Sports (you can dress up as soccer stars such as M'bappe, or Griezmann; the 2024 Olympics Games will take place in Paris; a Tour de France bike rider etc).

French Monuments (everybody knows what the Eiffel Tower looks like!).

French Emblems (the rooster is the national emblem; the colours of the French flag are blue, white and red; Marianne is the emblem of the Republic in France).

French Fashion (Dior, Louis Vuitton, Chanel No 5 are famous names of French fashion brands).

French Cars (Peugeot, Citroën and Renault).

French Famous people (You can dress up as Napoleon, a King or Queen, Joan of Arc, an artist, a writer, a scientist).

French Characters (Madeline, Miraculous Ladybug, Ratatouille, Astérix etc).

France is also famous for its food, chefs, mimes, stripey Breton tops, berets, poodles, bulldogs…

Chinese lollies (Lucky Candy, White Rabbit)

Ideas for French food you can bring:

Bread and cheese - French sticks are also called baguettes

Cheese - brie and camembert are very popular, but you can also bring some Babybel, or Laughing Cow triangles ("La vache qui rit").

Crudités. Cut up vegetables sticks with aioli, or French onion dip.

French Fries.

Quiche, French toast, omelette, vol au vents, savoury tarts.

Crêpes can be savoury or sweet.

For dessert: pastry such as croissants, pains au chocolat, brioche, profiteroles.

Mousse au chocolat, crème caramel, macaron, and meringue are popular French desserts.

Biscuits: Le petit écolier, petit beurre, tuiles.

Jam: Bonne Maman, St Dalfour.

All the major supermarkets sell French products so see what you can find.
