YEAR 7, 2024 INTERVIEWS

This year's Year 7 cohort with a Year 11 Peer Mentor on their first day of high school.
This year's Year 7 cohort with a Year 11 Peer Mentor on their first day of high school.

Over the next two weeks, the interviews for prospective families for Year 7, 2024 will come to an end. Many of the families that I have already spoken to have certainly done their research on the College and they seemed very knowledgeable of our facilities, extensive programs and high achievements over previous years. It is very affirming for the College that some of the common themes in our discussions are comments focused on the numerous opportunities afforded to students and the generosity of staff to ensure that these opportunities across our Four Pillars are continuously presented to all. I am also pleased to note that families have highlighted how impressive our students have been on public transport, through shopping centres after school and in classes that are held on the beach and at external venues.

Our reputation precedes us, and we are held in good stead in the community. Much of this is attributed to the staff, students and parents over the many years of the College who have worked with us in partnership and given generously of their time. Our intention is to continue in this vein with the support of all.

STRATEGIC PLAN

In Term 3, the College will be going through a process of developing a Strategic Plan. This is an opportunity for the College community, particularly staff, students and parents, to have a strong voice in the future direction of the College with the aim of further enhancing our great reputation. More information on how community members can contribute to this important document will be shared in the new term.

ATHLETICS CARNIVAL

The rescheduled Athletics Competitors Only Carnival will be held next week, on Friday 17 June. The Carnival is held at WA Athletics Stadium in Floreat, commencing at 1:00pm and concluding at approximately 6:00pm. Parents of participating students are most welcome to attend. My best wishes to all students involved for a successful afternoon and hopefully the weather conditions will be conducive to some good results.

ANNUAL WINTER SLEEPOUT

Also next Friday, our Young Vinnies group will host the Year 10 Winter Sleepout at the College. This overnight incursion has been a tradition at the College for over 20 years and educates our students in the ever-increasing issue of homelessness and the many organisations in Perth that assist those in need. At the conclusion of the presentations and after a simple meal of soup, bread and a cup of Milo, students will sleep in difficult and uncomfortable circumstances outside with only a sleeping bag and cardboard box, providing a small insight into homelessness. Mrs Rossana Hywood is still accepting expressions of interest for this insightful event until Monday. Thank you in advance to all staff involved who are giving their time for this annual event.

WHOLE SCHOOL ASSEMBLY

Our Whole School Assembly for this term, scheduled for next Friday morning, has been postponed to early next term. We are hoping to be able to welcome back some of our High Achievers from the Class of 2021 on this new date.

God Bless.
