Principal's News

All students attending St Louis de Montfort's Aspendale have the right to feel safe. The care, safety and wellbeing of children and young people is a fundamental responsibility of all within our school.

Good afternoon families,

It was lovely to see so many Yr 6 students and their families at the weekend masses, for the commitment masses for Confirmation.

Administration Building

Tomorrow the Administration and Leadership area is moving. Administration and sick bay will be in Room 1. The Leadership hub will be in Room 2 and Mrs Barron, Mrs Stefanec and myself will be in Room 3. The entrance to the office will be through the doors closest to the carpark.

We are hoping the building will start during the school holidays and the completion date is Term 1 2023.

School Closure Day

Tomorrow Friday 10 June is a school closure day and the staff have Professional Practise Time (PPT). Staff are entitled to 3 PPT days a year, as it is a requirement of their working conditions: The staff can choose to use the day -(i) planning; (ii) preparing; (iii) assessment of student learning; (iv) collaboration; (v) curriculum development; (vi) relevant professional development.

The next school closure day ( PPT) is Monday 31 October (correction from my typo in last week's newsletter).

Casual Clothes Day - Thursday 16 June

On Thursday 16 June we are having a casual clothes day with a gold coin donation for St Joseph's Coraki. NSW

On 12 March 2022 the Northern River area of NSW experienced terrible flood waters surging through people's homes, school, shops, hospitals and places of work and worship, destroying everything in its path. I have put in an extract from the principal's letter to his school community of St Joseph's Coraki.

'It is hard to find the words to describe the devastation, loss and sadness that has been inflicted on not only our school community but the entire community of Coraki.

Our priority at this point in time is to now turn our attention to bringing our children back to school. It is important for us to try and return to as much normality as possible within our school family, where our children know that they are loved, cared for and belong. We know that this is our greatest ability to support our families and give them space to process what has happened, and start planning the road to recovery.

Our first priority will be to look after the wellbeing of our children, staff and families and then return to learning.

At this point in time, our school has significant damage and building works will need to be carried out to ensure that it is safe and fit for purpose. We are uncertain at this time how long this will take, however, I assure you that all decisions will be in the best interests of our school community. Whilst it is incredibly sad to see our school damaged, it is not the buildings that define our school, it is our community. It is the people who call St Joseph’s family and as long as we are together we will make it through these difficult times.

While the building, cleaning and restoration works are carried out, our school community will be relocating to St Joseph's Primary, Alstonville.

Since then the area has been hit by more floods, and once again, the school has suffered loss of property and further damage.

The 22 Catholic schools on the peninsula are all having a casual clothes day with a gold coin in the next week. All the money collected will be sent to St Joseph's as they try and purchase resources that need to be replaced.
