Halo semuanya - hello everyone!

Despite being a slightly shorter week, Week 8 was action-packed in the Discovery Centre! If you haven’t yet seen the Foundation feature news on the MPRPS instagram be sure to check it out! We had such an amazing time all together on Thursday to explore our Guided Inquiry topic for Term 3 - The Bridge and Beyond. Students identified famous bridges, climbed over and under bridges, designed bridges and built bridges! We gathered some very curious questions and wonderings about bridges and materials which will inform our Guided Inquiry and integrated Literacy and Numeracy units next term.

In Literacy, students used creativity to design and describe their very own new creature! We began by exploring the natural habitat here on Wurundjeri Country, the traditional land on which our school is positioned. Students created an information report all about their imaginary animal to inform you (our audience) through Seesaw - keep your eyes peeled! As a part of our Guided Reading program, students analysed and described characters in listening post books as well as our Dreaming Story ‘How the kangaroos got their tails’. They worked hard to brainstorm adjectives to describe what the characters look like, how the move, what they might feel like to touch and what zone they were in throughout the text. Perhaps at home you can describe the characters in your favourite books, movies or television shows. You may even use kind adjectives to describe each other!

Did you know that Foundation students have been involved in AFL clinics in PE? Well, during Mathematics, we have been tackling a range of open ended problems all about football. We imagined that in our bag of footballs, there are some yellow and some red balls but only 10 all together. We discovered not just one, but many different solutions and recorded them to show how many of those 10 balls might be yellow and how many might be red! It was wonderful to see students working collaboratively and employing a problem solving strategy to support them. Your child may be able to teach you one of our problems solving strategies!

  • Draw a diagram
  • Make a model
  • Write an equation
  • Make a table

To support our ongoing Respectful Relationships program, we continue to have regular circle times or yarning circles, throughout the week. During our yarning circles, we discuss topics to support students through social challenges, reflect on our day as learners and unpack the character strengths. We have adopted important norms to ensure that all students are respected and feel empowered to share openly and honestly.

Well done to FJ for a fabulous presentation at our Junior Assembly on Wednesday. If you missed it, they shared all about our Term 3 Swimming Safety program that will run in the first 2 weeks of the term. Please feel free to contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions or concerns regarding swimming. We are looking forward to FG’s assembly presentation on Wednesday afternoon and warmly welcome the families of FG students and award recipients to attend.

We are looking forward to our last week of Term 2 and wish everyone a relaxing school holidays!
