Term 2 Week 9 2022

3/4 Gala Day

On Tuesday, students in the Independence Centre participated in the Winter Gala Day. Students played Netball, European Handball, T-ball or AFL 9s against other local schools in our district. It was a wonderful opportunity for students to play with their teammates and practise their skills. We were so impressed with the sportsmanship, encouragement and adaptability displayed by the MPRPS players. A huge thank you to the parent helpers who assisted on the day. We appreciate your flexibility and support, acting as coach, umpire, scorer or even all three.

MPRPS ~ Parent Survey

MPRPS has been using Mappen to support and facilitate its Guided Inquiry units, along with the requirements outlined in the Victorian Curriculum, a comprehensive document all Victorian schools use to guide their teaching and learning. As a part of this review, the school is currently looking at how it uses Mappen and is asking parents for general feedback on the Inquiry Units. The survey needs to be completed by the end of this week and can be accessed using the link below.

Healthy Harold

Last week, the Senior School were visited by the 'Healthy Harold' program from Life Education! These informative sessions support students to make safer and healthier choices through education. The 3/4 students developed their understanding of medicines and their safe uses, the impact of different factors on health and wellbeing and strategies for managing stressful situations. The 5/6 students explored decision making and how the impact of positive and negative influences can affect our decisions. Students explored the effects of drugs on the body and discussed strategies and skills to be safe. Next Term, Healthy Harold will be visiting the Junior students and they will be learning about Safety and Wellbeing for our bodies.

Regional Cross Country

We had three students represent our school at Regional Cross Country on Tuesday in Yarra Glen. Progressing to Regionals is an outstanding achievement and we are so thrilled to congratulate Ava M, Jacob K and Daniel S. All students participated in a highly talented race where they ran their fastest and best on the day, finishing the race competitors. We are so proud of the three students for striving to improve, committing to be their personal best and pursuing their love of cross country running!

Planning Week

Look out for Curriculum Overviews that will come out through Sentral from all Learning Centres giving a break down of what will be covered each week in every curriculum area.

Mount Pleasant's Got Talent

On Wednesday 22nd the finalist's for MPGT will be performing their acts for their peers, their invited family members and judges. The students have been working hard over the last few weeks to polish their performances ready for the big day.  There will be singing, dancing, magic and more on display.

As Term 2 comes to end we look forward to exciting new Performing Arts experiences in Term 3. Next term all students from Foundation and Year 1/2 will demonstrate their Performing Arts skills by performing in the Junior Production.   The Junior Production will be held on Tuesday 13th September at Crossways Theatre in Burwood. Mrs Claire Andrews has been writing the Production script and we look forward to rehearsals next term and the final performance.

School Council Report

School Council met last Thursday night. Immediately prior to the meeting we held the Public Reporting Meeting in which we reviewed the Annual Report and reflected on the past year.

An additional Curriculum Day has been endorsed as advised by DET and will be on Monday 15th August.

As part of the upcoming building project MPRPS surveyed the school community (including staff, students and families). This feedback (along with previous survey results from the development of the Master Plan) informed the development of Phase 1 of the school's Asset Management Plan which was approved by Council.

All Victorian schools are required to comply with new Child Safety Standards. As part of this compliance, Council has approved a new Child Safety Code of Conduct.

Council noted with thanks the contribution of those families who attended the recent working bee - all the tasks set aside for that day were completed successfully, including work in the school garden.

Child Safe

In Assembly this week I discussed our Protect Poster, this poster must be displayed in every classroom and is a good prompt for us to use to discuss this important issue. I spoke about how it directly relates to our revised vision of

To provide a safe, innovative and engaging setting which inspires students to achieve personal growth and feel empowered to make a positive impact in the world around them.

Protect Poster
Protect Poster

We discussed how everyone has the right to be safe and be protected from abuse. No one should behave in a way that makes you feel unsafe or afraid, including anyone in your family, anyone at school or anywhere else in the community. Tell a teacher or any adult at your school if you feel unsafe.

We all have an obligation to do the best we can to keep children safe from harm and abuse.

The Child Safe Standards are changing on 1 July 2022. Guidance and resources are being developed to support transition to the new Standards.

All organisations including MPRPS&K must take steps to prevent child abuse. They cannot assume that child abuse does not, and cannot, happen.

We will continue to inform you of the steps and changes we will be making to meet the revised standards. The Child Safe Code of Conduct has been revised by staff and endorsed by School Council. All updated Child Safe policies will be uploaded to our website as are the current ones now. If you have any questions or feedback on this policy please contact Reception.
