Well Done Rosie Bluck Supporting Local Charities

During the recent requirement for face masks, Rosie Bluck (year seven) has been sewing reusable masks. Rosie has been working very hard and has been selling them to people in her local area.  Rosie has also been donating $1 from every face mask to a different charity each month, the charity in July was the Climate Council.

Keep up the awesome work Rosie!

One Pager

In Year 8 English at the moment we are protesting! That is, we are learning about poetry forms and how slam poems are an engaging and effective way of performing our desire for change or a way for someone to voice their frustrations when it comes to how others see them.

In 8C we have been studying the word imagery and sound imagery of two Australian contemporary poets, Queenslander Ellen Van Neerven who wrote ‘18Cs’, and Victorian Maxine Beneba Clarke who wrote ‘Marngrook’ or Indigenous footy as we know it here. Students were asked to represent their understandings of these complex layered poems in what is called a ‘one-pager’ format.  Learning success happens when you can express succinctly big ideas visually. As you can see by some of the examples below, students from 8C have really shown how mature and creative they are….

Year 12 Studio Arts

The theme that I have chosen to explore throughout my studio process, in studio arts this year, is ‘journey.’

I was really inspired by fantasy novels that I have read, in regards to the adventure and journey the characters undertake. It was because of this that I wanted to discover how I could articulate a journey through four different panels of paintings, that would represent the important moments of my character’s journey.

Below are two of the artworks that will be in my series of artworks, where the first one is of my character leaving their hometown, and the second of my characters facing off against a bright orange dragon.

Virtual Cross Country

Frazer takes the lead again!!!

A highly entertaining week 3 of the cross-country challenge.

Just to recap we ended Week two with Frazer in the lead and Jackman holding down second spot. However we had an avalanche of entries from Jackman at the start of Week 3, which saw them surge past Frazer and take the lead for the first time during this challenge.  This did not last long as Frazer House members showed their competitive spirit by going out and accumulating some big kilometres to reclaim the lead. This back and forth tussle is going to make an exciting last week of the competition.

Not to be forgotten, Mabo had an exceptional week 3 and is now sitting in third position having overtaken Freeman. WOW!!

With so few kilometres separating all the houses this is definitely going to be a tight race to the finish line. The House Cup could be anyones.

Let’s see which House will cross the Queensland/Northern Territory border first.

Keep getting those entries in. The challenge finishes this Sunday at Midnight.

GO RINGWOOD!!

Music Report

With great pleasure we can confirm that the Music Department’s Gala Concert will be going ahead, albeit in a different form to suit the times!

This week we launched our Virtual Gala Project which will involve all RSC musicians. It was great to see so many music students online last Wednesday lunch, all excited and full of so many questions about how we are going to make this all work. It was great that all could reconnect online. Young and old were very entertaining via the chat during the meeting!

Thanks to Corey Lucas Evans for putting the Virtual Gala presentation together for our students, explaining how to record and submit their parts. The process involves each student recording their part for each ensemble they are in, submitting it and Corey, with the assistance of Tim Jaques, assembling each ensemble virtually. No mean feat!

This is definitely going where no one has gone before, here in the Music Department, and like everything else during this time, it is best to stay fluid and go with the flow, so a definite concert time, when we will stream this performance, is yet to be announced. The time frame for recording and submitting will be over the next few weeks with the aim of having everyone’s final recordings in at the beginning of September.

Any student who is still unclear on what they need to do, please check the links for the presentation last Wednesday lunch that have been sent to you via Teams or emailed to you by Mrs Sedergreen.  Also discuss with your conductors and instrumental music teachers this coming this week anything that you still don’t understand about the process or any assistance you need. This is a great opportunity to not only document what you have been achieving whilst in remote learning, but also to celebrate your persistence and resilience in learning a musical instrument during 2020! Even whilst in remote land we can still come together and make music!

Hopefully sometime in the next few weeks we will be able to release a taste of what is to come.

Stay tuned!
