Senior School Learning

Learning Report from our 5/6 Students

Reading

In Reading this week we have been focusing on identifying figurative language and poetry. We have new reading groups this week, focusing on our CAFE reading goals. This has helped us to become better readers. When learning about figurative language we researched songs like 'I Was Only Nineteen', 'Firework' and 'Where Is The Love'. These songs have figurative language in them, such as metaphors, similes, and imagery. It was fun to see that songs are a type of poetry.

Writing

In Writing we have been focusing on different types of poetry. We have learnt about Cinquain poems, Ode poems, Ballads and Limericks. We were able to write our very own poem for each topic. Learning about these different poems and figurative language has improved our writing skills. We now know that figurative language makes our writing more interesting and detailed.

Maths

In Maths this week we have been focusing on fractions. We have new maths groups this week so that we can practice our learning goals. This week we made a real life number line with string to show where the fractions should go. We also made some equivalent fractions using a fraction wall.
