Backflip Bullying
On Friday 15th July we welcomed Backflips against Bullying 's Luca, Charlie and Richard to the campus for an incursion on the dangers and pain of bullying. In an entertaining and energetic way these three performers were able to engage our Year 8 students in conversation and contemplation on some of the less obvious consequences of various types of bullying.
While the message is nothing new and contained in the College's School Wide Expectations, 'ROCKS', sometimes having the message reinforced by young, energised performers, is what is needed to get through.
This of course comes hot on the heels of presentations to Years 9-12 from the Pat Cronin Foundation on the Coward Punch.
Of course the takeaway message that I want to impress upon parents and guardians at this stage, is that all adults on campus - Teachers, Learning Advisors, House Leaders, the Mr Sambell as Pastoral Care Leader, counsellors and we as members of the Leadership team are all committed to creating a culture where the classroom and yard is safe and predictable for all. To support us in this work, it is essential that we are made aware of any instances where students do not feel safe; feel harassed or bullied.
Future is in your Hands
In other sections of this publication you will read about the Futures Expo that took place on Monday and the Subject Selection process. I implore you to take the time to read these pages. There is nothing more motivating than a clear vision of where you want to go; a plan of how you will get there; and knowledge and support of those people who are there with you on the journey.
A vision, a plan and a team to walk with are the essential ingredients for motivation. A wise man once said it would be foolish to think that motivation comes before action… in fact it is the opposite… get started with the action and this will inspire the motivation!
A Time of Deep Sadness
Staff and students are each finding their own ways to grieve the loss of a great teacher, colleague and friend; however I just want to conclude this fortnight's newsletter remembering Jim Constantinou the teacher and ICT Coach. Many students will have been taught by Mr Constantinou and all students will have benefited from Mr Constantinou's ongoing work to build the ICT skills and resources at St. Peter's College. Mr Constantinou earned the respect of all he met and worked with and he will be sadly missed.
Grant Mr Constantinou eternal rest.
