Mathematics - Cranbourne Campus
"From the College Archives"
Educational institutions are developing organisms: you can trace their growth from their origin to the present time. Some institutions such as Oxford, England (first known teaching, 1096), and Harvard, USA (1636), have centuries of history and development behind them. Other institutions such as St. Peter’s College, Cranbourne (1987 as St. Francis Xavier, Junior Campus; 1994 as St. Peter’s College) are much younger. However, there is something to be said for the vigor of youth and the growth that takes place in the younger years of an organism.
To that end, it is worth noting three anniversaries that occur this year. Starting with the youngest to the oldest, it is the tenth anniversary year of the opening and blessing of the Clyde North Campus, the twentieth anniversary of the opening and blessing of the Tarraville Building and the hundredth anniversary of the blessing of St. Peter’s Church, Tooradin, now the St. Peter’s College Chapel. The hundredth anniversary is December 7th. Perhaps, keep this date, or thereabouts, in your diaries.
Bishop Christopher Prowse, now Archbishop of Canberra-Goulburn officiated at the blessing of the Clyde North Campus in 2012. The late Jeremiah Coffey, the then Bishop of Sale blessed the Tarraville Building in 2002. St. Peter’s Church was originally opened and blessed by Daniel Mannix, Archbishop of Melbourne in 1922. On its relocation to St. Peter’s College, Cranbourne, the building was re-dedicated as a church and blessed by Fr. Andrew Wise, Parish Priest of St. Agatha’s Church, Cranbourne.
Even a school as young as St. Peter’s College has a history that is worth remembering.
We give thanks for the planners and builders who have provided the community of St. Peter’s college with the current facilities.
