Guided Inquiry

The Leadership Centre

For Guided Inquiry, the 5/6's have been doing a task called 'Museums in Motion'. For this task they were asked to pick a significant historical event or immigrant in Australia’s history. Many picked the gold rush, arrival of the First Fleet or a special AFL moment. The students had the whole term to make a diorama and make an info sheet. They chose their immigrant or historical event in a group of 2-5 students.

At the end of the term they presented their Guided Inquiry project to the other classes in the school.

Student Voice:

  • Jonny D - "I have been researching the First Fleet when Captain Cook came to Australia. I liked building the diorama."
  • Briana S - "I have been researching Anh Do and finding out how he preserved culture. I have enjoyed the craft and using creativity."
  • Theo S - "I have been researching the first AFL grand final. Building the diorama was very fun."

The Independence Centre

In Guided Inquiry the 3/4s have been doing project work about an explorer. Each student made a speech, video or a poster. We also did an Oreo experiment, using Seesaw to showcase their learning.

Student Voice:

  • Nathan E - "I liked getting to make my own slides about a explorer."

The Inquiry Centre

Our Guided Inquiry topic this term was learning to notice and explore Science around us. Students worked through a number of rotations looking at forms of energy, experimenting with change, chemistry, weather and physics. Students explored and built push and pull toys when learning about force.

Student voice:

  • Sahib P - "I enjoyed making toys out of recycled cardboard and paper. The toy I made was a squid."
  • Finn G - "I enjoyed learning about sound and light."
  • Matilda F -  "I enjoyed making the push and pull toys as I loved using the character strength creativity to make my house."

The Discovery Centre

The Foundation students have been making the world and different planets. They watched seeds grow and they planted sweet potatoes.

Student Voice:

  • Max - "My favourite part was watching plants grow."
