Writing

Written by Laura & Sam

Grab your pencil and paper everyone!” boomed the teacher as everyone rushed to their tubs. Students were jumping around at the sight of paper flying all around the room.

“I wonder what we might be doing today?” whispered a student with a puzzled look, to their friend. “Narratives are my favourite!” whispered the student back.

This term, everyone has been making awesome pieces of writing, and brainstorming ideas. Let’s have a look at what they have been getting up to!

The Discovery Centre

In Term 2, Foundation has been doing different types of writing, such as Information reports, codes, recounts and much more!

Let’s hear from the students on what they think was the most enjoyable.

  • Isaac M - “That we had to write the words, it was fun.”
  • Amelie T - “My favourite thing about writing is writing words and different things."
  • Max D - “I have been writing what this says and means, I love writing because it is fun.”

The Inquiry Centre

This term, the Inquiry Centre has been doing all types of poetry such as haiku, acrostic, shape and more! Their goal is to make a huge class book with their poems. How cool is that!

They have all been working super hard, here is what they think,

  • Mia B - “My favourite part was doing acrostic poems because we had to write describing words.”
  • Marley LW - “I want to keep doing acrostic poems, because I like doing them… and choosing letters.”
  • Clara M & Ivana C - “Persuasive writing because we do persuasive writing about our school, playground and planet.”

The Independence Centre

How to write a procedure, step one . . . This term, the year 3/4s have been learning how to make Procedures, Information reports while researching their topics. They all needed to choose an important person that had an impact on Australia, such as Elizabeth Lockheart, James Cook and much more!

For procedures, they were making “how to make” videos with iMovie.

Here is what they think of the topic and what they enjoyed most.

  • Wendy W - “We have been researching an explorer, I have been researching Marco Polo and I have enjoyed learning about his childhood journey and the impact."

The Leadership Centre

The Year 5/6's have been doing some poetry, different things like… AABB, ABCB, Freestyle, shape poetry, Haikus and a lot more!  Here are examples of the things that they have been getting up to. They all had the chance to enter one of their poems into a competition with the option of the topic, "In my opinion."

Here are Student Voice from the 5/6s:
