Year 10 HEALTH & PE      (Compulsory Unit for each Semester)

The year 10 Health and Physical Education program will expose students to a balance of practical and theoretical experiences. There will be a focus on developing movement skills and concepts students require to participate in physical activities with confidence and competence. The knowledge, understanding, skills and disposition students develop through movement in Health and Physical Education at our College will encourage ongoing participation across their lifespan and in turn lead to positive health outcomes. In addition, students will access and evaluate information to take positive action to protect, enhance and advocate for their own and others health, well-being, safety, and physical activity across their life span. Practical experiences will expose students to a range of activities that could include team sports and individual challenges. Regular involvement in both elements of the course is compulsory to assist the students in understanding and learning through, in and about movement.

Year 10 SCIENCE                (Compulsory Unit for each Semester)

Science provides an empirical way of answering interesting and important questions about the biological, physical and technological world. Science is a dynamic, collaborative and creative human endeavour arising from our desire to make sense of our world by exploring the unknown, investigating universal mysteries, making predictions and solving problems. The Science curriculum provides opportunities for students to develop an understanding of important scientific concepts and processes, the practices used to develop scientific knowledge, the contribution of science to our culture and society, and its applications in our lives.

Year 10 Science will include the study of genetics and inheritance, evolution, chemical reactions, electromagnetism, Newton’s Laws, plate tectonics and astrophysics. Students who wish to study sciences in VCE are strongly encouraged to enrol in the electives.

Subject Cost:     Science Semester 1 & 2:   $115 per year

Year 10 MATHEMATICS   (Compulsory Unit for each Semester)

During Year 10 all students will study Mathematics for both Semester 1 and Semester 2. All students in Year 10 study Mathematics at the same time. This allows greater flexibility in arranging focus groups to better meet the needs of students. On completion of this Mathematics programme students studying Mathematics successfully at Victorian Curriculum level 10 would most likely choose to study General Mathematics at VCE level. Students who consistently achieve above Level 10 assessments may choose to study VCE Mathematical Methods/Specialist Mathematics when in Year 11.

The diagram below represents the most common pathways in Mathematics although there are many other combinations of pathways to suit student needs.
