Principal’s Message

Mrs Kath Baird

Dear Parents and Carers,

As we are at the end of Term 2, it is a great opportunity to reflect on all the wonderful successes we have had here at Sacred Heart School. In the busyness of the term and when everyone is a little tired from giving their best we can know that we have 'left everything on the field'.

Our school started the term off by representing themselves with pride at our local ANZAC Day commemorations. We then participated in our Cross Country event on a very cold and drizzly day followed by students running at the Diocesan Cross Country in Barraba.

It was then our pleasure to host the special women in our lives at our Mother's Day breakfast. It was so lovely to be able to have guests en masse, on site again.

Our Kinder transition also commenced this term and we have spent the term getting to know our new students and having the opportunity to watch them grow in confidence.

Next it was time for our school leaders to participate in the GRIP leadership conference  allowing students to meet other like-minded leaders in our region. This provided our leaders to reflect on what leadership is and how we use these skills in our schools. GRIP leadership was quickly followed by the Book Fair where our students were able to be immersed in new and exciting texts.

This term has also seen our students participate in both the Narrabri and Gunnedah Eisteddfods where the bravery, perseverance and resilience of our students was on show. Whether we received a first placing or not, such events are about stepping outside of our comfort zone and trying something new.

Our debating team has been formed for 2022 and they have been furiously planning, writing and re-writing rebuttle's and speeches in preparation for this competition. This Wednesday will see their next debate against Uralla.

We have also had Dorothea MacKellar workshops, music lessons, reward lunches, masses and Real Talk sessions to attend.

Our Year 4 and Year 6 students will be attending the Real Talk seminars this Wednesday looking at Getting Real in the Digital World (Year 4) and Love and Life Reflection (Year 6).

Semester 1 reports will be available for parents via the Compass portal this afternoon.

Lastly, this week sees a final signing off for Mrs Colleen Howarth from teaching. She will retire at the end of this term after 44 years in teaching. This represents a significant contribution to the lives of many students and their families. We wish Mrs Howarth every happiness in her future endeavours.

We will be holding a farewell liturgy at the church tomorrow, Tuesday 28 June at 2pm. All are welcome.

A special mention to Hunter Rigelsford who celebrates his 12th birthday tomorrow.

We also have several staff and students who celebrate their birthday in the upcoming holidays. Tyler Stevens (6) and Miss Morrissey celebrate on 5th July; Molly Murphy will turn 11 on 8th July and Matilda Rowland will celebrate her 9th birthday on 15th July.

We hope you all enjoy your special day!

Kindergarten enrolment meetings will be held early in Term 3. If you know of anyone who is looking to enrol for Kindergarten next year, please encourage them to contact me at school so I can include them in meetings next term.

Take care

Kath Baird
