Principal's Report

ONE TERM ENDS AND ANOTHER BEGINS

As the attached pictures show, Pyjama Day on the last day of term 2 was certainly well supported and was a nice way to finish off the term.  Thanks to everyone for supporting the day and sending along a gold coin donation.  The funds raised 642.80 were donated to the Royal Children’s Hospital.  Well done to our VOTS Team who organised the day.

We  hope you had a nice break.  Unfortunately the weather was a bit ordinary, even for those who ventured north for some warmth.  Not to worry, it’s nice to have a break and the opportunity to slow things down for a bit.

We’re very conscious of the level of illness out there at the moment and hope that doesn’t cause too much disruption as we get through what remains of winter.  Unfortunately covid finally caught up with me in the last weekend of the break, which has me off site this week.

A big welcome to a few new staff for this term.  Beth Murphy is returning from Family Leave to replace Joy Hoey in a tutoring role.  Joy is heading off on Long Service Leave for the term and we hope she has a lovely time. Beth will be great in the role and it’s nice to have her back.  Susan Bourke is also returning to take on a tutoring role, in this instance to replace Kelly Geddes, who will be working at Berry Street for the remainder of 2022.  Kelly takes up this role next week and we wish her all the best.  Like Beth, Susan will do an excellent job in a tutoring role.  We welcome Emily Gilliland to our team of teacher aides.  Emily will be working at the Scotsburn Campus.  And finally, we welcome Alli Slater back to the teacher aide team.  Ali is returning part time from family leave and will be working at both campuses.

The kids have plenty to look forward to this term, including:

  • Our debating team will test their skills against teams from other schools.
  • Some engaging excursions (5/6s to Biocats, 1/2s to Serendip Sanctuary & the preps to the Wildlife Park).
  • The Preps will celebrate 100 days at school.
  • Buninyong kinder will bring their 4 year olds across for a visit or 2.
  • A disco is planned for August 19.  This will be the first disco in quite some time, so will be very popular.
  • We celebrate Book Week in week 7.
  • We have more sporting events coming up, which include inter school basketball, District Athletics.  And of course, we have the girls footy team competing at state level.
  • The grade 3/4s will head off to Queenscliff Camp and in September Ms Morris and a team of helpers take 36 lucky students to the snow for 6 days.
  • Our Victorian State School Spectacular Team perform in Melbourne on September 10, which is exciting.
  • Late in the term we have our Celebration of Learning evening, which is always well attended and is a great way for parents to see first hand what’s happening in classrooms.
  • It’s always nice to finish off the term with our Sports Colours Day.

COMMUNITY FORUM TO HIGHLIGHT CONCERN OVER TRUCK ACCIDENTS IN BUNINYONG

This Thursday evening at 7:30pm in the Buninyong Town Hall, a public meeting will be

held to highlight community concerns regarding truck accidents in Buninyong.

I’d urge parents to go along to help convey the level of concern held in the community.  As we all know, if the latest accident happened just 30 or 40 minutes later (to coincide with after school traffic, including bike riders and pedestrians), the result could have been very different.

Michaela Settle (Member for Buninyong) and Beverley McArthur (Member for Western Victoria) will be in attendance to hear community concerns and thanks in advance to Kartya DeGraff who will speak on behalf of the school community.
