All students attending St Louis de Montfort's Aspendale have the right to feel safe. The care, safety and wellbeing of children and young people is a fundamental responsibility of all within our school.                                                                                     Marylene Douglas

On July 26, the Feast Day of St. Anne and St. Joachim, we honour the lives of Mary’s parents, the earthly grandparents of Jesus. As existing information about Saints Anne and Joachim comes from the Gospel of James and Catholic legend, there is debate over the details of their lives. But regardless, it can be agreed that to be the parents of Jesus’s earthly mother, Saint Anne and Saint Joachim must have been faithful, devoted parents indeed. The patronage of Saint Anne includes grandparents, couples without children, women in labor, and women unable to conceive. Likewise, Saint Joachim is considered the patron of grandfathers, fathers, and grandparents.

As we reflect on the legacy of Saints Anne and Joachim, let us also reflect on the vital role played by all grandparents in completing the loving family unit and nurturing the faith of future generations. Grandparents can take a vital part in the training of their grandchildren, teaching them to love the ways of the Lord and honour his commandments. It was Saints Anne and Joachim who cultivated in the young Mary a love for God, preparing her for her role in the story of divine redemption.

On Tuesday 26th July, the Prep and Year 1 students are inviting their grandparents or special friends to a special Grandparent's Day Mass and will then be enjoying some fun time together at school. We hope to see many of the  Prep and  Year 1 students escorting their grandparents or special friends at Mass and in their classrooms.

Bless all Grandparents and keep them in Your care. Bless them with peace, health and healing. Reward them for their Faith and fidelity, for their work and goodness, for their love and thoughtfulness, for their gifts and prayers. Give them a long and happy life together. May old age come to them in the company of family and friends. And when life is over, unite them again, where parting will be no more, in the Kingdom of Your love.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

 AMEN
