CURRICULUM FOCUS
In Reading, we are learning about the structure of an explanation text.
VOCABULARY
Structure of an explanation text: Title, introduction, body of text (includes explanation of how/why something works/happens, the process), conclusion.
Explanation text: Explanation texts are pieces of writing that explain something. They might tell you how or why something happens, or give information on how to do something.
Introduction: Introduces the subject and is usually a short definition.
ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING
During home reading, ask your child to select a nonfiction text from their satchel or a book you have at home. After reading, ask them to identify the topic, title and introduction of the text.
