Les Alpes

Bonjour tout le monde,

J'espère que vous allez bien (I hope you are well). Today, let's travel to the magnificent Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.

This region’s wild spaces will amaze nature lovers and outdoor sports fans.  It is a haven for hikers who love protected, unspoilt countryside and sportier visitors in search of a thrill.  From walks in the Auvergne Volcanoes Regional Nature Park to rock climbing in the Mont-Blanc massif or kayaking in the Sioule gorges, you'll be spoilt for choice.  Ski fans will be overwhelmed by the number of winter sports resorts in the French Alps - the region is home to the largest ski area in the world.

The city of Lyon is famous for its gastronomy: it has been named “The Gastronomic Capital of the World” since 1935. The city has 20 Michelin star restaurants, including the Paul Bocuse restaurant, as well as many traditional eating houses called “Bouchons Lyonnais”.

South of Lyon, on either side of the Rhône Valley, stand two favourite destinations for holidaymakers: Drôme on one side, with its charming villages, gently rolling hills, lavender fields and mountains, and the Ardèche on the other, with its famous gorges so loved by kayakers, characterful villages, volcanic sites, medieval castles and superb panoramas.

In between visits to these attractions, you can enjoy some delicious regional products and famous specialities. Cheeses from Auvergne and Savoie, green lentils from Le Puy, Lyonnaise salad, potée auvergnate stew, poultry from Bresse, tartiflette, raclette and fondue, Romans ravioles, wines from Côtes du Rhône and Saint-Pourçain, Montélimar nougat, Saint-Genix cake and pompe aux pommes (a local apple pie) are all packed with flavour to tickle your taste buds!

Let's come back to school...

  • Prep: The Prep students have played outdoor games such as a new version of 'Duck, Duck, Goose' to memorise numbers 1 to 10.

They are now starting a new topic, fruits. In class we watched the following song that they are going to learn:

  • Year 1: The students have finished their portfolios. In the following activity, they look really cute in their French outfits. They wrote down the greetings that they have learnt.
  • Year 2: The students are starting a new topic, rooms in a house.

  • In Year 3, the students are drawing their own map of a city that they will label and describe in a short paragraph next week. This will help them memorise the spelling of the vocabulary that they have learnt on this topic, and they will use two new expressions, 'il y a' (there is) and 'il n'y a pas de' (there isn't).
  • In Year 4, the students are busy learning a new French song that they will present at Assembly next Term ('Derrière le brouillard' by Louane and Grand Corps Malade), while in Years 4/5 and 5/6, we are continuing on the topic of breakfast and snack food.

La chanson d'aujourd'hui est (Today's song is): 'Aimer à mort' (Love to death)by Louane:

Passez un très bon weekend! (Have a lovely weekend!)

A bientôt,

Delphine
