Year 5/6 Report
In our Inquiry lessons, the 5/6 students have been exploring how animal and plant adaptations aid survival. They researched a chosen animal or plant and identified the various structural, behavioural and physiological adaptations they exhibit in order to survive in their living environments, and students presented their findings as part of a mini project. The students also investigated how living things are impacted by a change in their environment, such as a natural disaster or climatic event. They also identified a range of organisations around the world that help to support living things through natural disasters and they chose one to research further into.
During our Literacy lessons, students read texts that supported our Inquiry unit of ‘Survival’. We unpacked each text together and analysed and critiqued them, identifying the author’s writing craft. The 5/6s have begun to analyse a range of explanation texts, learning the text structure and writing style, in preparation to write their own over the next couple of weeks.
