Principal's Report

Reconciliation Week!

We are very fortunate to be living, working and playing on the land of the Wurundjeri Woi-Wurrung People of the Kulin Nation.

We trust that you have taken some time this week to reflect on what reconciliation means and considered how we all can be brave and make change, hopefully families have continued the conversations that are happening in our classrooms at home. It is up to all of us to take action and make tangible steps towards reconciliation. For more information about the actions we can all take to make change visit the reconciliation website here.

Student Free Day 14 June

On the 14th of June, APS will be having a student free day where our teachers will be working and learning together to improve the learning opportunities for all students ahead of Semester Two. Team Kids will be available for books on the day - please get in quick so that Team Kids can do the work behind the scenes to have enough staff on the day.

Minor Capital Works Fund Grant

The Victorian 2022-23 State Budget allocates an additional $41.8 million to fund additional projects, deemed a priority by schools and the Department of Education, from previous rounds of the MCWF — and brings total investment in the program to over $130 million over the last three years. We were very excited to have a substantial grant provided to our school to refurbish the existing staff and accessible toilets in the main building to improve amenity, cleanliness and hygiene. This is going to be quite a major project and we are grateful for the opportunity to improve the quality of our facilities.

Education State Principal's Conference

On Monday and Tuesday of Week 6, I was fortunate to attend the State Principal conference. This was a great opportunity for principal's across the state to get together, collaborate and learn about ways we can continue to lead and improve the learning for our students. This year's theme was ' Stronger Together: Every Student, Every School' and focussed heavily on how we can continue to build inclusive communities, where everyone experiences that important sense of belonging which will promote positive learning outcomes for all. As always, there were lots that I was able to learn from the experts from around the world and colleagues who have also been leading schools through the pandemic.

As always, there is so much to share in this week's newsletter. We hope that you enjoy.

Have a wonderful weekend and we hope your families are able to enjoy the long weekend next week.
