The Fathering Project

Event Announcement!

What is The Fathering Project?

As we bounce back as a school community, DAPS (Dads of students at Aberfeldie Primary School), will also be supported by the Fathering Project – a non-for-profit charity operating in 880 schools across Australia, which seeks to inspire fathers and father figures to become better for the sake of our kids. The Fathering Project provides information (such as by weekly email tips), a portal with blogs and advice, encouragement and ideas, through school-based dads groups such as DAPS. – Aberfeldie Primary School Dads Group (thefatheringproject.org)

Who is DAPS?

DAPS stands for Dads - or father figures - of students at Aberfeldie Primary School, who aim to socialise and have fun on occasions, to build friendships, better understand what is going on at the school, and in their kid’s school life, and in doing so become better dads. DAPS is not a fundraising initiative but will work collaboratively with the fundraising committee around events. It does not require any time commitment from dads, other than of a social nature. DAPS and The Fathering Project is supported by Nathan and the School Council. Pleasingly Scott Burns, a Dad himself, has offered to be a teacher representative who will aim to join us at functions, help provide a link between dads and the school.

What’s coming up?

We have our launch event on Thursday 9th June 5.30 – 7.00pm in the school gym. To register your interest for this event please email Scott Burns on scott.burns@education.vic.gov.au for numbers and catering purposes by Thursday the 2nd of June.

Former AFL coach Rodney “Rocket” Eade from the Fathering Project will be on hand to say a few words, we have free pizza; and a kids + parents paper plane making competition with prizes.

We are aiming to organise one event per term. In term 3, we will have an event around Father’s Day in early September, with a breakfast and some fun activities. Over time, if there is interest, we can build on this to add guest speakers, and Father-Kids events, plus connect with other primary schools.

Kind Regards
